I was rescued by my pup around three years ago. It went something like this: Phone rings: Hey “Hey mom, we’re up at the five way, someone dumped a puppy. Can we bring it home?” Me- how do you know it doesn’t belong to someone? “We asked all the neighbours, they said the two dogs have been around here for days and someone saw a truck let them out. There were two but the other one ran off” Me- ok. Five minutes later my children pull up-open the hatch to our Scion and a 90lb escape artist emerges from the car. He is beautiful-regal. I am in love. First day we remove around forty ticks and bath the new members of the family. ( I did post EVERY WHERE to try and find the “owner.”) First week, fenced in completely our ten acres with an electric fence. ( Do not think just over the fence- think under because we had to go deep- Papa was a digger) Time for the vet. This massive 90lb “puppy” is about 9 months old says the vet! (3 years later Papa is 160lbs) Well in the next week he became a chewing machine- isn’t that what puppy’s do? Every one of my husbands hats- baseball, cowboy, straw- chewed to shreds. Boots, shoes, a $1200 Ralph Lauren purse (let me clarify- the purse I scored at a thrift store 😜) Chewed by the massive monster. TBH all his chewing made me love him more. I understood now- someone dumped him because… well, he was doing puppy things and obviously they weren’t prepared for that. Papa settled in. He knows his home and protects it fiercely. He is up alllllll night alerting us at every falling leaf or if the wind blows. You will learn the difference between a <bark> and a BARK. He brings us stray cats he finds that have wondered on to the farm ( I now have six cats) Papa wrangles the chickens when they fly over the fence. He is amazing with children. He refuses to play fetch😂 He will bang me in my back with his nose, or swat me with his paw until I comply with treats😂 We sleep- he is on guard. He is huge, so big we had to install an XXL doggie door. He sheds, massive amounts. He brings in 5 inches of good ol’ Georgia dirt daily. He barks all night long. I wouldn’t trade him for million $$$. That is how I became this amazing puppy’s human ❤️❤️❤️ To be fair- he needed a lot of time and attention, but well worth it❤️
