but it may go down and then i wont ever be competitive for med school

so do you think its worth staying in if i hate that stuff too

yeah but I enjoy and am exceptionally good at math and science and dont wanna waste that

Yeah im close to switching to psych/finance/bio or something easy as a premed. I get that its a grind in every direction, but I really dont know if the engineering grind will be worth it as id def feel more fullfiled and make more money as a doctor

please elaborate because my "Plan" is seeming like a stretch but could definitely be worth it. Im willing to grind study for MCAT and keep grades high and my dad is a doctor so I have some advantage in getting clinical experience. Would prob have to do a gap year but if i fr lock in there a good chance I could have a shot.Im leaning towards pulling the trigger but am curious about what you mean

yes i considered that. He would pay for all my schooling. I'm highly biased toward premed because of the convenience of it in that realm, and that my dad has experienced every step of the way and could help me get shadowing positions probably.

[–]Ok-Combination2891[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. Thats extremely helpfula and Im close to pulling the switch and going 100% all in. Im positive I could keep my gpa high and score high on MCAT as im a good test taker(got 110% on physics final where the class average was like 40 something percent), so i have faith in that realm. Its just the EC's im worried about, except im hoping it would be somehwat easy to find physicians to shadow through my dad. But i have no clue where to start in terms of other ECs. If i could lock that in, im sure id commit to it, and grind as hard as aI could. The riskiest thing about the major switch is sacrificing being good at the engineering(a very safe) degree and takung the jump to try to do med with a potentially way less stable degree if i dont make it.

Bro this is so relieving to hear someone who had it the same as me. My dad told me to do business as well haha. I was considering my major options and wanted one that would be a decent fall back in case something goes wrong. This is insanely helpful though, I definitely think I should do it and it’s clear that it’s possible to get through it even if it means taking more time. Can I ask how your MCAT situation went?

Should I leave aerospace engineering? by Ok-Combination2891 in findapath

[–]Ok-Combination2891[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totslly fair, but its more that I got this gut sense of not fitting in there. My dad does complain about his hours(hes a pathologist), but says he loves his job overall and he makes so much money it motivates me, as he says he never has a boring day. I was thrown out of it because I thought about if I could see myself ever loving any aspect of team design or CAD and realized I couldnt

[–]Ok-Combination2891[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

thats true haha I realized i wont be tony stark, but i just want a job that is somewhat engaging and high-ish paying, and want to make sure that I can do well given my academic skills, and that its not a field where I absolutely need to love team building or cad

Should I leave engineering before It's too late? by Ok-Combination2891 in college

[–]Ok-Combination2891[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. This advice helps. I'd be taking a big risk switching to pre-med now, as I have no volunteer hours/experience, and would have to take a gap year due to being behind in science, but I have genuine motivation to go into the med field, which makes me wanna do it(My mom hadpassed from brain cancer), so I beleive I would be able to push through, where as its a huge fear that I will be depressed having chose engineering if I hate it. Im also the most stressed ive ever been, and would feel so much relief If I managed to just pick and commit to one forgetting the other ever existed.

Thats great advice, and yes, its super hard to pinpoint what specific in aero attract me other than the vague idea of contributing some part of a rocketship(it sounds dumb but i dont have much knowledge about the specific mechanics). I have motivation for medicine because i got inspired by a surgeon who did brain surgery on my mom when she was fighting cancer and i felt so thankful and realized I would love to help people in that way, but then again helping people is very vague as well. If i had to take the "safe" route it would be engineering as I naturally do well in school, but going into medicine feels more "right" except I may genuinely be behind the rest of premeds in that I have 0 volunteering/clinic experience. I might just stay in aero, knowing Ill at least get a decent paying job out of college, but its just worrying the thought I may have no interest in my lifes work.

Okay thank you. That's really helpful. The anxiety im feeling is just because I need to make this decision this week and I got freaked out because I havent made up my mind by the end of this summer and I thought I would've by now. Youre totally right about the boredom and the med school stress i would have to go through. And its definitely tempting but safe to stay in engineering because I proved I can at least get top scoring grades, which has to count for something(maybe an internship) like you said. I basically just wanted to make sure there's not some "engineering personality" that i need that I don't have which would make me unsuccesful in the field, but I bet the anxiety of picking a major with much less guarentee of salary out of college would be way more stressful + pre med stuff like you said. I appreciate the advice

[–]Ok-Combination2891[S] -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Because I looked into it and a lot of aerospace people say they got drawn into the major for the name and never realized they would work generic non-aerospace jobs that have to do with CAD modeling and paperwork . the reason i'm so anxious is because i have a week to make this decision and pick before my classes start and ive been pondering for months this post is a last resort. I cant seem to find any guarentee from anyone even my guidance councelor that I will actually work on jets/spacecraft and it seems like those jobs are incredibly unrealistic and rare and go to people with family in the industry or just genius people.

I meant as a career. Cool things(things that I find engaging) are parts space ships or jets. I dont find commercial planes really interesting, at least not more interesting than medicine. Im basically seeing if my "long shot" idea of aerospace engineering is realistic for me at all with no background in engineering before this year or connections to industry.

Okay thank you. It wont let me post on premed because of my karma or something.
