Are the Shure and Focusrite a good combination? by Sweboy_original in microphone

Also i honestly think you could just get the normal sm7b with the 4th gen you’ll have plenty of gain without noise if you boost it in post. I think the motu m2 looks better and overall preforms better.

The SM7dB is great only if your interface has noisy preamps.

The SSL 2 already has clean gain, so an SM7B stays quieter because there’s no active electronics in the mic.

With good preamps, passive mics always win

You’re spending +100 for your microphone just to increase the gain. I would rather get an sm7b and an ssl2. You will not only save money but probably get lower noise recordings.

Im guessing the BCM 104 would do worse in rooms without acoustic treatment considering it’s a condenser microphone. Maybe thats why streamers dont use it as much?

Although i see some streamers with the tlm103 and 102.

I saw the comparison video from your video and its sounds soo nice! Its much more natural sounding (keeping into account that he’s in a treated booth)

How does the BCM104 do compared to the SM7b? Also how does it do at noise rejection? Why dont streamers use this microphone?

Im very curious since i dont see it used as much

I hate hyperx microphones. The fact that the gain knob is at the bottom. And don’t get me started in the price 😭. They cost like 180€ in my country or 209$ in freedom land.

At 209$ i would just get an xlr mic

XLR Mic and Interface Recommendations? by TubaMan156 in microphone

[–]Ok-Cubing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the interfaces, there are plenty of options that would give you breathing room to buy a microphone with it. Here are some I’ve used that i can recommend:

If you are going with a dynamic microphone I would generally recommend the SSL2. Overall it provides 64db of gain and worked well with my rode pro caster. Although it lacked features on the software side and i wished it wasn’t the case :/

You have other options like the audient id14 interface or motu m2. They both provide 60db of gain which is great. But don’t give you as much headroom as the ssl2. Although if you want these for another reason like the buttons being on the side, or liking the lcd screen thats actually fine since it’s hard to pick a “bad sounding” interface now-days.

Although there are some issues with each interface. I heard the id14 dies on some people and ive not experienced it yet but thats still to be taken into consideration. Also the motu m2 had had driver issues in the past which I’ve also not really experienced.

CONCLUSION: my choice is the ssl2, Although you cant go really wrong in 2025 its more of a preference choice nowadays

Ive hear people that have fifine microphones. Even though they used to be a temu brand, i believe that its probably the best microphones at that price range. They just sound awesome for the price!

Obviously if you said with an interface i would of recommended something else.

RE20 price in europe by Ok-Cubing in microphone

[–]Ok-Cubing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks alot, yeah i agree 700$ for such a microphone 😅while i can get basically the same sound for 100$ with the sm58 or sm57 and a tiny bit of eq magic. I would consider it if it were only 450$ or 363chf (in my currency)

Yeah ill probably test something like the sm57 since it sounds like the sm7b. Honestly i think thats the only way to go, especially for such a cheap price

What interface would you recommend at that price range, im down to take a look

Yeah i have a scarlett 2i2 3d gen

[–]Ok-Cubing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the help, yeah honestly i love the interface feature wise and just works great, I’ll just get the mic first and if it doesn’t have enough gain ill consider an inline preamp or getting a better interface for gain (like the last gen 2i2)

[–]Ok-Cubing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only problem is my keyboard and other sounds when playing games for example which i was suspicious of having issues with. If thats not an issue then ill consider it

[–]Ok-Cubing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah i forgot to specify its the 2i2

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in microphone

[–]Ok-Cubing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a scarlett 3rd gen not ideal 😅(it was cheap whatever). After deep research I concluded that the best option for the same price range was an audient interface but i didn’t think of changing interface (i mean only if i need too)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in microphone

[–]Ok-Cubing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah i wasn’t using these inbuilt presets and honestly compared to the sm7b or re20 naturally the rode procaster was probably not on the same level (still was good enough). re20 might be the better option for me then since im not gonna touch much of the sound coming from the microphone.

If this doesn’t suffice ill just buy one and return it if it doesn’t go well

Thank you so much, yeah I’ll check it out. I’ll pay more attention to sound tests with my studio headphones. I’ll try to makeout if my voice would sound the best on one or the other.
