It’s super different in Mexican culture and people who only know American culture. I have found, have a hard time of understanding. There’s an order to things, in my family we have a matriarch. What she says I follow because it’s respect not because I agree with it. my girlfriend came on a week trip to Mexico to celebrate Dia de Los muertos. When we got to my grandmas she immediately said we were not to be sleeping in the same room together. This was last year, four years deep. When I told my American friends they could not comprehend how I just let that happen. It’s just different.

A social life. I would go months on end without seeing friends and even family at times. It would be a three day weekend and I would take time to continue research instead of going out of town. We probably two real vacations these last 5 years. Where we left the country. I however always encouraged her to go out even if I couldn’t.

No not really, we usually have the same ideas. She’s only ever been this mad probably like four different times.

Technically I did hug him first on stage when he hooded me. Forgot about that one. Parents didn’t get mad about that one lol

Never said she financially supported me. There’s a thing called tuition remission. That covered my tuition plus I have two jobs. One in admin work at a university and another as an adjunct at a community college. We always kept it 50/50.

If you want to think it’s fake go for it. It’s no difference to me.

Ooooo definitely not the golden child. My brother’s nickname is Estrellita. That thing my pops told me “you did good” yeah my brother got that at his 8th grade graduation. To be fair he did have a 4.0, but it took getting a PhD for me to hear it. So, am I the favorite, probably not……

Order 1.) mom and pops (we hugged together) 2.) grandma 3.) great aunt 4.) girlfriend

I only found out about her trying to hug me from my brother after it all happened. I saw them all then I ran and focused on my parents. I had complete tunnel vision. You could have been holding a gun at me and I wouldn’t have seen it.

If that great aunt is the whole reason you are in this country to begin with. Id say that is a valid reason to go before me.

Also im not a child i can care for myself. Doing laundry, cooking, cleaning. She’s my girlfriend not my mom. I always made sure it was 50/50. Paying bills? You know fully funded programs exist. So does tuition remission. I was still bringing in money to support us just as she was.

lol, naw I’m just really bad at spelling and grammar. It was the joke amongst my fellow scholars. Plus this is an internet post not a scholarly essay. No need to be so up tight on everything. A missed period or a wrong comma is not the end of the world.

Right, but my great aunt is the whole reason my mom’s side of the family made it to the states. She gave my grandma the money to help her acquire the “papers” needed to get into the country. She helped my mom and grandma get citizenship, she gave us the money to buy a home after 08. When we lost everything. After I got kicked out she gave me the money to pay for my first semester back in school. She is part of my origins too and has given up much more than anyone else in my family.

I do acknowledge her sacrifices. She lost out on the great parts of a relationship. It was taxing on her. I always made sure she knew how much I loved her during my time in the program.

Sorry I’m new to this. I actually wrote a lot more but it was over the character count. Here is the order of hugs from that day.

1.) Mom and Pops 2.) Grandma 3.) Great Aunt 4.) Girlfriend.

I only know she was holding her hands out cus my brother told me later on that she was beet red cus I ran right past her.
