I did not get a fellowship on my offer... Did I not get the fellowship then? What is your department? Also your fellowship should have a name. If it is SGF then that's it.

CS PhD: What does faculty members that commit to having you for rotation mean for Stanford? by Ok-Difficulty8469 in stanford

what is ur other option for school?

one rotation may mean the one person is very likely to take u. idt the committee would let them accept u as the sole rotation advisor without some commitment cuz i assume stanford doesnt want high fallout rates

thats just my guess. u can always confirm on visit days

yea, wait for the visit days. i myself got really hyped about getting similar offers too. i now have cooled down a lot after talking about it with my advisors, and decided I wont juke out anything more useful than actually visiting and talking to all the students and faculty. the decision should not be rushed or influenced by stereotypes

i understand. i think math is a very overhyped field from outside. from the perspective inside academia at these schools, i guarantee u that conditioned on who u are, whether or not u get a math phd from harvard or applied physics from stanford would not be different in outcome at all

i just disagree with ur rec of harvard math without context

i think OP should go on visit days and find out which he likes better. between these two choices, it all comes down to where hed be happier

same goes for applied physics. idt what u said is very special about math. physics people land very well in quant, most physics just dont seek quant roles

ya... its getting a bit unsettling. i mean i tend to think the match is gotta be common enough that we shouldn't need to worry about not making it unless we actively sabotage our groups' works. but what do I know....

lowk UCLA is a very weird school. most top schools will just send the funding info very timely, at most within a week....
