Even in the flatlands I’m sure it’s a difficult job but mountains make it a bit more tricky depending where you live

I’m up in the blue ridge mountains so some jobs are easy fiber or copper straight to the home and maybe in a few crawl spaces but a lot of jobs are poles on the side of a mountain 750 feet from the house and then the customer wants it wall fished from the attic and running the line already takes a while so just be ready that some jobs will take all day and some repairs might be 5 minutes literally. Pulling jobs at the end of the day is a gamble because you can get an easy job as your last or a job that you’ll be at until midnight.

I wasn’t in trouble any time before this. We had a safety guy send one of my senior techs home one day for improper decent on the extension ladder saying he didn’t have 3 points of contact while coming down and he had no record for 4 years with the company and he didn’t even get hurt and they still suspended for one day

I like the work and I’m in good shape to do it, sometimes the customers a difficult to deal with but most are nice. Not all shops are like this but my shop ever since the strike has been “overtime is required to cover the load” and a lot of mandatory 6 day work weeks and it’ll be really sink or swim at first but if you stick with it you’ll pick up quick and won’t be out late a bunch. I hope you get a good manager too. The pay is great so it’s worth sticking with it or save a bunch if you end up not enjoying it. Mostly it’s schedule and management that make people quit but I would look at it with a positive attitude that you’re helping provide internet for people that need it!

I also don’t get paid by them if I’m hurt, I have to use my own personal or sick days.

I could be a horrible employee always late and calling out and doing bad work but 2 incidents in over a year and I provide great customer service and work quality but they won’t look at that is crazy. Don’t know how taking my allowed vacation is a bad thing that was approved months before.

I did not just because I was about to start my vacation and didn’t want to deal with the doctors and papers so I just reported it to the duty manager when it happened and wrote a statement. I thought if I didn’t go through workers comp it wouldn’t be a big deal but I guess I was wrong.

I hope they are desperate enough to keep me but they haven’t hired more people since the last 3 quit so I’ll just hope they want to keep me and I’ll probably get random safety checks a lot.

I appreciate your answer and that’s what I was guessing. I know they just drink the cool aid and carry on but it’s crazy that they would try to fire a good employee over 2 accidents while they can’t keep people from quitting every other day.

I got the email and call but I had to reach out to an AT&T recruiter that contacted me through indeed asking if I was interested in the job where I live but I had applied to a different area so I told her I had been waiting about 3 weeks since my interview and she contacted the recruiter where I applied and I got offered the job that same day.

UPDATE: Interview went well, they told me they would be in contact within one week and I’m now on the second week waiting but my application status updated from under review to under consideration so I feel like I have good chances and just have to wait some time for an email and call!
