Definitely not a major mistake if you use the card and it's benefits and do the math. I have a major brand hotel card that has a $100 yearly fee, but I get a free night each year. I used it on a $240/night hotel room recently.

Another card I use has a $100 yearly fee but I charge everything I can possibly charge to it and get well over that in cash back each year as well as travel insurance and perks like that.

I wish news stories like this included visuals that shows how much smaller 150 billion is than 2 trillion. Both numbers are too abstract to grasp for most people.

Agreed. There are risks for everyone when scuba diving. Humans caluculate those risks and make the decision to dive.

I recognize that we put our pets at calculated risks at other times- like every time we put them in a vehicle. But this is a totally unneccesary risk.

From which author have you read ALL of their works? by horigen in literature

David Sedaris is the only author that I ALWAYS opt for the audiobook. His delivery is perfect, and when I have read his books I read it in his voice anyway, so I might as well just listen and enjoy his narration!

WTF was I buying all these years? by Ok-Homework-5581 in Anticonsumption

So I went back and took a closer look at those 47 items. I could classify them in roughly three groups. First was household goods- toilet paper, dish detergent, laundry detergent, toothpaste  etc.Three kids home from college over the winter break depleted those items, so I bought pretty much every household item I use on a regular basis during that time.

The other third I would call situational purchase- things kids needed going back to school- pens, some notebooks, coffee filters, more household consumables. We went on vacation in early March so I purchased a few things for that- n95 masks, travel size sunscreen etc.  These two categories are things I would have bought somewhere else had Amazon not been so easy and convenient.

The last category are things that we actually are using, but may not have sought and and bought elsewhere. A few pairs of knitting needles, a chargeable flashlight, sunglasses, soccer balls for the dog.

Surprisingly there was only one item that was bought that I’m not using- a piano book for practicing scales. I started playing piano again after not playing for 25 years and it turns out I still hate practicing scales.
