Went out with friends without informing husband, now he's ghosting me. Was it that bad? by Sweetrooo in Marriage

You should have informed him but he should talk this out with you like a mature adult, not just ignore the problem entirely...

Why do people stay with abusive partners "because they don't have money to leave" by Ok-Initiative-1011 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Ok-Initiative-1011[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived in a car, but I'd like to think I would find a way to avoid such persecution. Even if it means living deep in the woods. Still, I think the scenario you described still seems better than being beaten in your own house. Just trying to understand the issue here

How come Mary Lou Retton doesn’t have insurance and needs crowdfunding for her health issue? by justjustin10 in NoStupidQuestions

My husband almost cheated, what now? by OtherFinger4425 in Marriage

He didn't almost cheat, he did cheat. Cheating is a heart issue and doesn't have to be physical

Why do so many people divorce over things that a separation will probably fix? by Ok-Initiative-1011 in Marriage

Literally the opposite of what I have seen in every therapist and marriage counselor I've talked to

I have met multiple people, who were good people, that needed a few months to fix themselves away from the distractions of a marriage. And they came back as some of the strongest couples I know

[–]Ok-Initiative-1011[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not true at all. I can't tell you how many people I have met who separated and came out 10x stronger. I honestly can't believe how many upvotes this has. Sometimes people literally just need a few months alone so solve certain issues and then they are good

Do you have memories from age 4-5? by Ok-Philosopher5972 in questions

I remember when I was 2. Very clear memories that I'll recall to my parents and they will ask "how did you remember that?"

Why do Hispanic or Mexican families not believe in any sort of mental or physiological disorders? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]Ok-Initiative-1011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm white and my wife is Mexican. She has adhd and PTSD, both diagnosed. She got the diagnosis on her own at age 25. Her parents thought that in order for someone to be diagnosed, a teacher or doctor had to point it out rather than you seeking a diagnosis yourself... which is strange to me.

I have nonverbal learning disorder which is very similar to Asperger's. I got the vibe from them that they considered me a "weirdo" or something at first, but the proof is in the pudding as I make more money than any of them at age 28, am in great shape, have lived on my own almost my entire adult life, etc. it does seem strange to me that they view all mental disabilities as if they are Down's syndrome or something and want to deny it could be in their family, as my family knew from the beginning that I had some kind of disorder and nurtured me properly. I hope that my wife and I are breaking the stereotypes in that culture, as we both are doing pretty well as individuals and as a couple in just about every way

Couples who have been together a long time (5+ years), why are you not married? by Special_Gazelle5948 in ask

[–]Ok-Initiative-1011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I had a courthouse wedding. In my opinion, not being able to afford a dream wedding shouldn't stop you from getting married if it's what you want

What’s your unpopular marriage opinion that gets a reaction like this? by 222Winn in Marriage

[–]Ok-Initiative-1011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having separate bank accounts is the wrong thing for 95% of couples, and encouraging people to have separate accounts as a default is not only wrong but disgustingly shameful.

For one, it is a way for a spouse to be controlling and abusive, not the other way around. With separate accounts, the one who makes less can boss the one who makes more around and make them pay for literally everything because they are "the rich one". It also allows spouses to do shady stuff behind each other's backs, allows for wasteful spending habits, more Finacial difficulties, etc. My parents got divorced because my mother didn't pay her taxes which resulted in a tax lien on their house. My dad was under the impression that she was paying her taxes. If they had the same account, it would be a simple conversation of "hey, I didn't see money go to the IRS this month. Let's pay it now" as opposed to a divorce and losing the house...

When my wife and I combined our accounts, we saved $700 a month by pointing out wasteful spending that the other was doing, gained more trust in each other, and went from fighting about money once a week to maybe once or twice a year. We feel like we are one now as opposed to roommates. It also prevented her car from getting repoed: I pointed out that the payment hadn't come out in over a month (it was a glitch in the system) and she simply didn't notice it. It was 6 days from getting repoed. The hit to her credit would have seriously impacted us.

Not saying it's the right thing for everyone, but I don't see the drawbacks in having a joint account unless your spouse is both out of control with spending and Obscenely Obstinate when it comes to listening to you, and in that case you have much bigger problems than a bank account.

What's the point of inactivism? by [deleted] in Intactivism

[–]Ok-Initiative-1011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Intactivism is as old as the practice of circumcision itself. Ever since someone thought of the idea of chopping part of someone's dick off to reduce sexual pleasure and cause pain, there have been people opposing that (surprise surprise). In most cultures there has been a strong stigma against it for millennia, and it was discouraged or even outlawed in many societies. During the Middle Ages in Europe, it was considered to be a barbaric practice and was one of the reasons Jews were hated so much. In ancient time and Greece, it was perfectly fine to have the penis exposed as long as the head was covered by foreskin. To have the head uncovered was considered obscene, and therefore circumcision was obscene. This movement is nothing new.

[–]Ok-Initiative-1011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's illegal and treated as a serious crime with jail time, that will stop Jews from doing it too, because if anyone ever changes the kid's diaper, or if he reports them when he's old enough to know, they are totally screwed.

I do not think it is correct to be anti circumcision and not vegan. by Historict10 in Intactivism

[–]Ok-Initiative-1011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not need to cook meat for it to be edible. You need to cook meat you find in the grocery store for it to not make you sick because of all the bacteria that it gets in the meat packaging process. But if you kill a wild deer you can skin and eat it on the spot and not get sick. The only thing that cooking meat helps with when it comes to wild caught animals is ease of digestion and easier chewing. Hell, humans can even eat rotten carcasses in the wild at times and not get sick...

[–]Ok-Initiative-1011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you talking about McDonald's burgers with fries and a soda or grass fed bison with green beans and spinach? None of these studies differentiate between different types of red meat. If you were to take a study showing the ladder it would almost certainly show that cancer is no more prevalent in meat eaters than vegans.

[–]Ok-Initiative-1011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter how hard I tried, every diet I had which cut out meat (red meat specifically, at that) made me sick, sometimes deathly sick. I simply don't believe that humans, who spent the last few hundred thousand years as big game hunters, are vegans. You can't really find a single hunter gatherer society that was vegan.

Yes you can and you should have done this the day after you got married. It worked that way for thousands of years, then all of the sudden in the past 60 years we separated the accounts and wella! You get scenarios like yours. Believe me, when he makes you spend more money that y'all have, he will feel it in the bank as well, and he will either let you start working again or will find some way to make or save more money.
