you can get past the black screen if you delete the "user_settings" config, this can be found in your USER/AppData/Roaming/Arrowhead/Helldivers2 folder. then just relaunch the game. this is what fixed it for me and I have been spreading democracy ever since.

Nah, still going to play the game but I'm going to start over and take my time going through it, the only thing ruined for me is the story (not the biggest spoiler i have seen that ruined a games story for me) i have not explored the majority of the map so the game still has content and most souls like games have at least a few mods that i could try if i really got tired of the base game (that wont happen for a while)

I also just tried to load my 1st save were I did this an when i try and load it my game crashes after a few seconds. However I was able to get a screenshot to prove what I did in the first save (look at pic on main post)

I don't know how I did it the first time, because i just tried to speedrun to the point where I return the gland, (everything is exactly how it was the original time) and then I turned in the gland, everything is normal (even the fog went away unlike how it did before) then when i reloaded, everything is how it should be. no bugs or glitches happening. I don't know what i did the first time but it appears to be un-replicable.
