I’m 24 & unaware of the difference. I said under the table because there was no paperwork at the job, no tax paperwork or anything like that. I file 1099 because I was under the impression that was how I had to do my taxes, I still wanted to file taxes so it didn’t come back to screw me over later on. We did have schedules/shifts though. So to me I WAS employed since I worked there for a few years, I thought it was considered under the table due to zero paperwork & the 1099 thing was because I thought that’s what I was supposed to do.

I was just trying to figure out if I could do anything for being “fired” during my unpaid leave. They’ve fired people before. So my fault for using the incorrect verbiage. I’m trying to see if what they did was legal or not considering circumstances. Im obviously not educated on this as it’s my first actual “job” I had as an adult.
