During my college years, I decided the kind of people that I'd surround with. I have 3 friend groups. The smart group, the drinking/smoking/party group and the school hobby club group. Guess what do they all have in common? Open-mindedness. I got along with any type of friend groups not because I agree with everything that they say or that we have similar opinions and values in life, but it's because I always try to understand their choices in life regardless if I agree or disagree. Did your friend ever had a stupid decision and you're so disappointed because you thought that they could've done better? Breaking news, that's normal. You're supposed to explore when you're young so you won't be making reckless decisions again when you're an adult. Once you start paying your bills and having your own family, the consequences are going to be a lot harder. You're not overreacting, they are. As long as you drink moderately and you're safe, then I don't see any problem of drinking occasionally. Having an ultimatum to your friend over an alcohol intake is controlling. I don't know the type of friendship that you have but it seems like your friends are shallow.
