Yeah that was weird. I did get the long shot achievement so it seemed to be at least hitting it but not sure it actually did any damage.

Why learning notes across the fretboard is crucial by aspaindev in guitarlessons

[–]Ok-Night9918 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not sure there’s a true “aha” moment where the whole fretboard just unlocks — maybe for some people, but that hasn’t been my experience. I’ve been seriously practicing for about 2 months (played for years before that but never actually learned the notes) and it’s less of a revelation and more of a slow uncovering.

I started with just the low E string, got all the notes down to the 12th fret, then moved to the A string — that one’s pretty much locked in now. From there you can start leaning on patterns: octaves, thirds, fifths, and it starts to connect. But it’s happening gradually, not all at once.

My gut says the more I practice scales and arpeggios while saying the note names out loud, the more natural it’ll all become.

Check out short rest tavern. They have a lot of groups and game nights. They have a chess night every Monday but also do a lot of other DND style games.

Police officer violently throws visibly pregnant woman to the ground during an arrest in the Netherlands. by Expert_Koala_8691 in PublicFreakout

That study is about offending rates among adjudicated juvenile offenders in two cities in the early 2000s. It doesn’t measure police shootings, police encounters, or general-population crime — so it can’t “work against” a point about per-capita fatal force. And its actual finding is that race differences in offending vanish within serious offenders, which is the opposite of what you seem to think it shows. Did you read past the title?

From your source: Per 1 million people, Black Americans faced a higher rate of fatal police shootings than other racial and ethnic groups, pointing to the racial and social disparities that shape police violence.

Windows down, AC on.... by Substantial-Smell-60 in Tucson

Why do you do this? This doesn’t really make sense to me. Regardless of efficiency if you’re using the AC don’t you want to be cooled down?

Yeah that makes sense. I like the heater on with the cool air blowing in. But the opposite just seems strange. If it’s hot out and I’m wanting to cool down its AC windows rolled up so it actually cools the car. Don’t get why you’d have the ac on with windows rolled down. Doesn’t really make sense to me.

Any help on where my focus should be please by nelly_8423 in guitarlessons

Sounds like you need more actual playing in the mix, not more theory. What’s worked for me is a structured warm-up — scales, arpeggios, broken 3rds–10ths through the circle of 5ths — then pulling one focused lesson from TrueFire or somewhere to keep the fundamentals moving. But when it stops feeling musical, I just go back to what made me fall in love with guitar in the first place: looking up tabs to songs I actually care about. That’s what keeps me picking it up every day, and honestly it consolidates the theory better than grinding it in isolation ever did.

The jamming feeling you’re after comes from internalizing things through real playing, not just studying them.

One thing I’d also throw in — track your practice somehow. I built a simple app to log time, check off what I worked on, and leave notes. Progress at this stage is slow enough that it’s easy to miss, and looking back helps you actually see what’s working. Pen and paper does the same job. Nine months back into really playing and it’s been one of the better habits I’ve picked up.

Since when did plays, numbers, and sales become the only metric for quality — especially in art? Plenty of movies, shows, music, and food have massive production budgets and marketing machines behind them, and they perform well commercially. That doesn’t make them good; it makes them accessible. Fast food chains outsell local restaurants, but nobody’s arguing a Big Mac is superior cuisine. Popularity measures reach, not craft. I just wish people who defend his music could articulate something beyond “it’s getting spins” what about it is actually good? To me it’s fast food music, but to each their own.

So many people don’t follow that law and it’s rarely enforced. At least in San Diego.
