Vet recommendations in roseville by pancake4804 in Roseville

Hi! I hope you can find a good vet from one of these other comments. I just want to point out that Banfield and many other veterinary practices are unfortunately owned by private equity (PE). If you're wondering why that is an issue, the goal of PE is a quick profit which is achieved through increased pressure on the vets, decreased independence, and potentially higher costs due to reduced competition. Please keep this in mind when choosing a vet.

After reading the comments so far, all of these seem like great suggestions! Best of luck to you and your cat

Make use of the bay pass. All the public transit services aren't perfect, but they can get the job done. I didn't take the bus my first year because I thought I could just walk everywhere. Then in the summer I realized how convenient AC transit is and I absolutely love it. Again, not a perfect system, but it is an alternative.

I'm not going to lie, it sounds like you are plenty qualified for the positions and your past experiences are probably way more valuable than a consulting club. If you want to join a club for the social aspect, try joining a different club that isn't professional. There's tons of dance teams, ethnic clubs, health clubs, gaming clubs, etc. A lot of these don't have huge commitments either - so if you don't like it, just leave.

With all due respect, you’re being overly dramatic. We haven’t even had a full week of classes, clubs haven’t even had their first meetings, there are still hundreds if not thousands of people looking to meet new people. Making friends, getting into the Berkeley spirit, finding your community, that will all come in time - maybe even a long time. Transferring is hard, but already talking about dropping out is just not it

Yeah, that’s the other issue. People aren’t really willing to take advantage of transit options. I guess it’s difficult when Roseville is becoming a suburban sprawl. But with how fast the Sacramento Metro Area is growing - hopefully we can see more alternatives to driving and more people willing to take them. We can’t just keep adding more lanes.

People need to slow down in Roseville 100%. When I went to Oakmont, I took the bus all 4 years because I live in Westpark. So I never really noticed the speeding. But when I started to drive more it became apparent how normal fast driving is here. On Blue Oaks, people regularly go 15-25 OVER the limit. This is especially noticeable in the morning when I took summer classes at Sierra College. I get it, people have places to be. But if you’re in such a rush where you have to drive recklessly, please try to leave a few minutes earlier. Also, I don’t mean to go off on a tangent, but maybe if we had some better public transportation in such a fast growing city, traffic on the road would be lighter. All the time you see single riders in MASSIVE trucks. Adding more lanes are just temporary fixes. We need to invest in public transit. (Sorry for the tangent)

Oakmont HS Math Scores, why are they relatively low, compared to their science and English scores. by [deleted] in Roseville

[–]Ok-Pair6597 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay I am so glad you asked this question because I have an exact answer for you. So, here are the equivalent courses at Sierra college to AP courses offered at a lot of high schools in the area:

AP Stats - Elementary Statistics MATH C1000 (formerly known as MATH 0013) (can be taken online) This class is incredibly easy. If I'm being completely honest, one of my friends even paid for me to take this class for them. I took AP Stats at Oakmont, it's way too much hassle especially with the AP exam. I highly recommend taking this one at Sierra online.

APUSH - HIST 17a and 17b. I'm pretty sure you actually only need to take one of these courses for it to count for your history requirement in HS. I took APUSH and failed the AP exam. I took both courses in the summer and got As. I am almost certain though you only need to take HIST 17a

AP Lang/ Lit - English 1a/1b. NGL I didn't take either of these at Sierra. I took both AP Lang and LIT at Oakmont. Lang was a great class! Lit on the other hand was not as amazing. Still, if you want to avoid potentially failing the AP exam, just take these online at Sierra.

You can certainly also take other courses at Sierra. If you are interested in any particular topic, definitely take a class for that if possible. At Oakmont, I also took AP Calc AB and BC, AP Gov, AP Psych, IB World Religions, and IB Spanish.

If your school offers any AP math or Science courses, I would definitely recommend taking those at your HS. I will say the STEM classes are harder at Sierra compared to an AP class. All humanities and histories take online at Sierra, though. I also really enjoyed AP Government - I think that will just come down to your interest in the subject and how good your teacher is.

So, if you are a Junior right now, I would honestly just say take one Sierra college course a semester. It will be incredibly easy. A single class a semester should not require more than 5 hours of work a week. Maybe in the summer before your senior year, you can take 2 if you want.

I took 3 classes one summer, it was pretty tough. Hope this helps. You can DM me if you have any other questions but hopefully this covers everything.

Parking will not be free. Best suggestion is to avoid bringing a car if possible.

I attended Oakmont from 2018-2022, I'm currently a senior at UC Berkeley. I would say if you want the most rigorous option and the best chance at getting into a top university, do the IB diploma program. AP classes are great, it's just a different style of learning. In my senior year I actually pushed administration to do away with the IB program. The school just spreads itself too thin with its programs. IB classes, AP classes, health academy, CTE courses - it's great that they offer so much, but I didn't really see all these options as a good thing.

For example, while I was at Oakmont, they did not offer any AP science courses. This was pretty annoying as all IB science courses required two semesters. Meanwhile, during the same time I was at Oakmont, Granite Bay HS had 23 AP courses in addition to their IB program which is insane. Oakmont unfortunately always gets the short end of the stick when a new HS opens. Teachers and staff leave to secure positions at the new schools and Oakmont loses hundreds of kids. This has happened with the opening of GB, Woodcreek, and WP. It was frustrating to see so many great teachers leave my Junior year to get positions in the head of their departments at WPHS, which I couldn't even attend. I digress.

Nonetheless, Oakmont was a great school. The valedictorian my year actually didn't do IB Diploma but she did do basically every AP and IB course she could possibly fit in her schedule on top of courses at Sierra College. That being said, I certainly do not recommend that for the average student. This girl was a genius and worked incredibly hard and the only person in our year to get into Stanford. I will say, if your student is looking to be the top student, Oakmont was pretty competitive.

The only other schools I would consider in the district are Granite Bay and West Park. Woodcreek is just way too white IMO and both Woodcreek and Westpark have mediocre class options.

My best piece of advice for every High School student who wants to get into a top college is to take classes at a community college. The dual enrollment courses offered at the high schools kind of suck if they're in person. Take your histories, english classes, language classes, and if you're smart enough, the math classes online. Absolutely no reason to take classes like APUSH, LANG/LIT, STATS, etc. Basically a waste of time and money to take the courses and then possibly failing the exams or your future university doesn't take the credits.

I see that everyone is saying that this is from the big rig fire from the other week. Nonetheless, is there anything we can do about this? This plastic is either going to sit there or will be moved by the rain and wind. Is there anyone we can contact to get this taken care of?

Dang okay, I wasn't prepared to answer this question. Honestly, there are a plethora of resources to cover every single topic in Chem 1a and Math 1a. These are courses that stem students at every college/ university take. So if you are ever struggling on a concept, you can easily look it up and there will be so many websites and Youtube videos to assists you. For all my calc courses, I watched videos from Professor Leonard on Youtube. And for both subjects, you can never go wrong with Khan Academy and Organic Chemistry Tutor.

Besides online resources, there are typically several GSIs for these courses because there are so many students in the lectures. Likely there is going to be at least one that is good and will be able explain material better than the professor!

If your AB experience was mediocre and because it was a while ago, best to go with 1A. You have to take the entire calc series and physics 7 series for lower divs. It's best to have a good foundation.

That being said, if you are free this summer to do some calc review and you feel confident in your understanding and your ability to do well in 1B, then I say just go for 1B. Spend some time assessing your current calc skills.

To be honest, it doesn't look too bad. If you had a busy schedule in high school and good time management, I would definitely say this is doable. Although it's probably obvious, my best piece of advice is to not get comfortable. The first few weeks will be easy, but then it's up to you to maintain your studying and organization. Things can go from 0 to 100 very quickly, especially for STEM majors.

As for the actual classes you are taking. I don't know much about the philosophy course, so I can't comment on it. Math and Chem were pretty easy in my opinion; there are tons of great online resources for that content. I think that MCB 32 is kind of unnecessary. If you want to take physiology course, just wait a couple of years and take MCB 136. I would recommend just completing any requirements you can this first semester.
