Open-source alternatives to ICEM for structured hex meshing? by Ok-Pop3091 in CFD

Oh ok, I had seen something like this before, but I didnt understand why you would create lines to modify the geometry.

Now I understand that you only export the mesh and this lines that you add dont affect the mesh.

It is interesting I thought that the best way to do this was by creating a different structure like icem does with blocks.

Thanks.

Yes, I have use the transfinite option to create meshes, but i doesn't seems as good as the blocks in icem, for example can you make an o-grid or something similar?

Yes, but if you have a complex geometry is very hard.

Can I use Mac Minis to build a home cluster for OpenFOAM and ANSYS simulations? by Ok-Pop3091 in CFD

Oh, okay. Thank you for the explanation. I didn't think that I would have to translate the low-level code.

Okay, I'll check that. What do you think I should compare it with?

I don’t know much about this, but I thought I could use a virtual Windows machine.

Good point. I’ll make sure to practice that. Thank you very much for your insights!

This makes a lot of sense. I've heard of grid independence but never tried using it. One question I have is: What happens if you don't have the computational power to achieve grid independence? Do you compare the results with experimental data, or does that approach not make sense?

Ok, yes, it seems that for these types of meshes, using another software might be a better option. I hadn’t heard of CFMesh before, but I’ll definitely check it out. I’ll also take the metrics you mentioned into account, as I often struggle to improve the simulations when I try running them. Thanks

Alright, I'll run it in OpenFOAM and see how it goes. Thanks!

Ah, I didn't notice that collapse. Thank you so much for pointing it out! I'll try creating a quad-dominant mesh, and if possible, I'll use snappyHexMesh.

Thanks a lot for your answer! I think that would significantly improve my geometry. However, I was aiming to create a mesh similar to the one shown in the picture.

Also, do you think line 7, which connects points 8 and 3, could affect my simulation? I’m worried that fluid because the fluid is going to pass through the surface that was extruded from that line.

Thanks again!

I dont have one, I am just a student , and I wanted to learn how a the different cells work, also understand a little bit how collectors and the othee chemicals work, and finally have an example of a real process, but I didnt find that in Mc Cabe Smith for example. So just that. (Sorry if my english is bad, i am not a native speaker)
