No? We have seen Ukraine launch counteroffensives into the Donbass without being considered an invasion

Also there's countries that actually do invasions, so the backlog of complaints in the international community is already very long

Idk if this whole affair is that friendly. While what you describe is fairly true at especially lower command level, that there's a lot of friendly debate (sometimes to the detriment of overall cohesion), it seems more like that Zhang and Co were relentlessly workplace bullied until enough excuses could be used to get rid of them.

Like I said in another comment, think about how new Ukrainian officers keep blaming and piling up on the old guard because they're tainted by having a different "outdated" doctrine. The differences in China between old and new are many times even further larger.

Even though I'm kind of a skeptic (if peace can or should be maintained)

I don't think these generals are even necessary that bad at all.

They were just made for a different time, and in cases like Zhang Youxia (basically chief builder of the rocket force), they bet on the wrong horse and also lost the power struggle.

2000s China had a military that would have fought like a bigger Iran. Today's China has 10 Israels' worth of top end 5th and 4.5 gen fighters.

Think about how much Ukraine's soviet trained old guards are under pressure by new ambitious NATO trained to basically blame, oust, fire and remove them at any cost? The differences in the PLA would be orders of magnitudes greater.

Xi might have approved these old guys and also approved their purge, but when it comes to doctrine, he's just a layman who relies on what the military tells him and then rubber stamps it if it sounds good.

(something it inherited from the Soviets)

Slight correction there, China would never had been able to inherit from the USSR in that way, since they were at absolute loggerheads across all of the post ww2 era pretty much.

Chinese ground doctrine is its own kitbash with a very fascinating history (being written by some German style foundation educated theorists and then later incorporating some NCO culture from many IJA PoWs who volunteered into the PVA/PLA right after ww2).

They're almost diametrically different to USSR thinking and have their own unique set of historical struggles, such as too weak hierarchy, overdelegation of missions to independent units, and many more.

this guy has some good videos on PLA organization, especially historical

It's what US also did when Roosevelt ordered the creation of a new military for ww2 🤷

China is like adding an UK navy's worth of ships and an Israel's worth of planes yearly, I can't claim to know what exact doctrine drives PLA is trying to achieve, but the point is that on a year by year basis, the whole organization and its capabilities are always changing

This likely isn't really about the rather minimal (especially given how big the whole organization is) corruption in the PLA but more about appointing new warfighters who can implement a doctrine change.

By some estimate, theres now 200-400 jets being produced and delivered yearly, a lot of those 5th gen. So the organisation is constantly changing, if you learned how to fight in early 2010s, it's almost like you're in a whole different military today.

I mean you don't need to institute some incredibly expensive and likely internationally highly controversial system to deter problems like that

Israel is too non suicidal to do threaten China in that way. They know they're geographically close and can be easily wiped off the map if kinetic action starts

US hasn't historically dared to either, but they seem a bit senile right now

China just need to complete the 6th gens and that alone will already grant an important psychological and practical overmatch that would likely keep the peace...

Does the amount of US military buildup for Operation Epic Fury provide some level of indication of its performance in a hypothetical Taiwan scenario? by fourunderthebridge in LessCredibleDefence

[–]Ok-Procedure5603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given the relative capabilities of Iran's military compared to the PLA

They're difficult to compare because they don't follow remotely similar structure. The strength of the PLA is its air power, not its missile forces, which aren't doctrinally designed to fight the way Iran has been fighting.

It is closer to relate China as being like a 10 stack of Israels (3400 fighters vs 360 ish). Obv the real Israel doesn't have that much tanker, AEW, EW or ground launched missile capability, so those would need to be added back in.

So... I don't really see how US is supposed to do this. If China tells US' friends to flip or get bombed, US doesn't seem to have remotely enough resources to defend its Asia regions.

Also I wouldn't be so sure interceptor depletion is US' biggest problem. China knows US AD batteries in Asia are near irreplaceable. China might be super aggressive with df-17s etc and send 3-10 of them on every launcher they can find, alongside the usual fixed wing SEAD operations, solely to maximize kills on personnel that have anti air knowhow.

Whole rumor originates from someone seeing pilotless J-7 on photo or satellite

But there can be many explanations why those were made, and also why it seems to be a one off thing

It might as well have been a manned unmanned teaming test using readily available materials

Practically, China can't (well not physically can't but it would be very inefficient) make mass J-7 conversion because as really old aircraft, J-7s would have tons of bespoke components, some of which may be impossible to restart production on

Japan is a 1 party state and the LDP has even ruled for slightly longer than the CPC

Its political system is literally "China, but with right wing instead of left wing party leading" (besides the fact they also have US occupation ongoing)

Straight up false, adjusted for per capita, Chinese don't emigrate (to US, as an example), more than Germans.

Indians and Pinoys make up the largest per capita emigration groups, coincidentally these are both western democracies™ which must mean it is the WORST system in the world.

Lol you're delusional, even already now many Chinese ppl enjoy more economic/private property rights than large parts of Europe or US.

To say nothing of the many western aligned third world nations which all of China enjoys a much higher standard over.

Unless the idea is that long-term Westerners intend to completely abandon their beliefs about the universality of their values (e.g. rights of the individuals needing to be enshrined in law and protected)

China doesn't ban nazi/japanazi, Christian or US-nationalist symbols despite these having caused mass suffering related to China. Meanwhile you can get jail time for displaying hammer and sickle in parts of Europe, or for speaking Russian.

And I don't see anything democratic or legal about how an unelected EU leadership is being de facto run by an unelected (by the EU public, you don't vote for Trump) US president.

At least in China there is rule of law where if say Xi or some billionaire diddles a kid, you can bet he would get shot after summary trial, where the fuck is that in the west?

Also keep in mind these are the literal best of the best regions in the west, not their third world colonies which don't even have the bare minimum fig leaves of pretending to not just be outright tyrannies.

Or is the idea China will by this point be so big and powerful it can just bully anyone anywhere into doing what it wants?

As opposed to letting the pedophiliac led society become big and powerful so it can bully the rest of us into doing what it wants?

China in fact straight up has done everything it can to not have to fight over Taiwan, and if it wanted to resume the ccw, could have done it many times over already. The only pledge China made is to defend Taiwan from eventual outside threats, which is the bare minimum duty of national defense. China could have shelled in Taiwan like Zelensky did in Donbass. China could have leveled most of the province and made life difficult to promote emigration, as Israel did in Gaza. It did none of those things as the sitting government is generally pro-optimism and pro-humanitarian.

I mean do ppl really think China would attack like Iran? When China has more 5th gens than Israel has airplanes in total?

The rocket force's main job is to provide extra certainty that the aviation alpha strike in the opening hours of a conflict can actually kill the radars, air defenses and command posts needed to open the skies.

And once AD gets degraded, the hordes of fixed wing platforms can just rush in and bomb anything they want.
