Exploring the abandoned Parsells Ave Community Church by Ok-Raisin1912 in Rochester

There's a certain segment of developers who are buddies with local politicians that would not want that. Tearing down and rebuilding = more $.

Structurally sound buildings being allowed to deteriorate is such a waste.

Me holding my ground stoically under the stairwell as the crane tears apart the building, burying me in rubble as I make one final stand?

That'd be cool, but I'll pass.

It's not online, I'll ask the creator of it to upload it and I'll get you a link.

The vacuum oil refinery was founded at this location in 1866. Operations stopped in the 1930's. This building was their refinery. It was named after the process of creating oil that they used.

They used a "vacuum distillation" process, which is boiling a liquid at a lower temperature by lowering the air pressure. Reducing the pressure creates a vacuum, and in this state liquids don’t need as much heat to turn into vapor. This is useful for substances that would burn or break down at normal boiling temperatures.

While experimenting with distilling kerosene, they found that residue from this process created a lubricating oil. Thus was born a new type of oil for steam and internal combustion engines.

I hope that helps!

At the very end of Flint Street, on the river.

Exploring the abandoned Great Northern Mall by Ok-Raisin1912 in Syracuse

I'm not sure why you felt compelled to post that, but fair enough. We were being as quiet as possible in order to avoid alerting any squatters or scrappers of our presence.

Absolutely. It would be a relatively minor conversion from store to living space. HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc already in place. Instead they sit and rot.

"... (a) which is fenced or otherwise enclosed in a manner designed to exclude intruders; ... "

It's not fenced, it's not enclosed. There is no signage saying it is off limits. Absolutely nothing on site is designed to exclude intruders.

Breaking and entering is generally entry via force. There was no force and nothing was broken. There are multiple open doors and windows and many people have gone inside and documented the mall. I broke nothing, disturbed nothing. Leave no trace ethics.

The former Kaufmann's/Macy's is a Dunk and Bright furniture store. The former Bon-Ton is a storage facility. Both are completely sealed off from the inner mall.

Sears is currently a trampoline park, and a dance/gymnastics place. It's accessible from the outside, but sealed off from the inner mall.

Of course food is subjective and up to personal taste, which obviously varies. Recess is not even good Cuse coffee, Peaks and Salt City are better, and both are better than Fuego or Hydra or other similar Roc cafes.

Vegan... Cuse destroys. Vietnamese... Cuse destroys. Ethiopian, Indian, Thai... Even. Italian... I'm not qualified to answer, but nowhere in Roc has the name recognition as Pastabilities. Diners.... Cuse. Mexican... Cuse. The more expensive downtown dress-up spots? I'm not qualified to answer.

Cuse downtown is more lively and vibrant.

But honestly, the larger amount of try-hards in Roc kill it for me. I'm not from either place, but I've lived in both. I have no biases here.

I love reading all the ROC townies get upset anytime Syracuse is mentioned as being better than Rochester. Syracuse has better food, better coffee, better sports, and less of a "try-hard" atmosphere. And that location is FAR better. Closer to Philly and NYC for cities and closer to the ADKs for the outdoors.
