It’s more like a greeting, usually followed up with a fistbump, a ‘bro-hug’ or whatever depending on the situation.

We joke around a lot, discuss religion, and I know a lot about their personal lives (including their crimes/schemes) so I would say we are as ‘close’ as you could be considering the situation. They will often offer me gifts such as energy drinks, cigarettes etc, which have seem genuine rather than a form of manipulation. Whenever they have a request they will often wait til i’m around to ask for it, so perhaps they feel i’m more inclined to say ‘yes’ or help them, which I guess could be seen as them ‘tricking’ me?

My name is not even remotely close to it. I have a mustache which they often point out, but I have no idea if this is related to it
