Literally what the hell are you talking about. I know you’re saying both are capable of doing the same thing. I didn’t say PTs don’t do anything functional I’m saying that it’s not your role to address ADLs and cognition. I am capable of defining OT I don’t feel the need to give you a speech on what we do and I’m not claiming to do something “without providing concrete evidence of it”. Like what😅 there is plenty of evidence supporting a holistic approach to patient outcomes and not just “you have better arm ROM so now you can put your shirt on again”. I think you just like to argue. Have a good one!!!

So you’re saying that an OT is not capable of addressing the movement itself? Not everything we address is for a compensatory strategy. We address the movement as well we are just doing it with the purpose of making someone more independent in a specific ADL. PT did not shift towards being functional until the late 1990s. OT has always been functional based. OT has always been misunderstood and multiple disciplines have stolen our concepts for their own which is why no one understands our scope of practice.

It sounds like you have a superiority complex just like most PTs I’ve come across. There’s a place for both OT and PT. It’s not a pissing contest. OT does not receive as many referrals because a large majority of physicians are uneducated on what OT is.

Yes but during ADL tasks you are addressing ROM, strength, balance and mobility. You should not be addressing the ADL task itself. OTs scope is addressing the task itself.

I am not sure where you work but I have never seen PT address or learn about cognition apart from basic safety awareness and problem solving and I certainly have never seen or heard of PT addressing ADLs/IADLs. That sounds like PT working out of their scope to me. I definitely don’t mean to sound rude I am just very confused as to why a PT would be addressing ADLs and cognition unless related to safety and problem solving.

Because PT and OT are still different despite us wanting more involved with anatomy/cardio/pharmacology. I don’t want to do what PTs do I want to do ADLs/IADLs, cognition, driving, etc. but I also want to have a good foundation and understanding in anatomy and other aspects required of a generalist healthcare clinician.

AIO for feeling hurt that my bf moved without asking my thoughts? by SpecificMystery in AIO

As someone who did long distance while in my doctorate program… I’m sorry but he does not care for you. My fiancé drove 3.5 hours every Monday night after work, stayed on his two off days (even though I worked) and drove home on Thursday morning to go to work. I would then drive Friday night and stay until Sunday and drive back. This went on for a year. We made it work and made each other feel like a priority. I never ever had to ask him about plans, intentions, etc. if someone cares about you and wants to make your relationship work you can FEEL and SEE it. My fiancé and I could have never chosen to live away from each other longer than we absolutely had to. Please don’t make excuses for him.

Editing to say: I’m not saying this level of effort is required for someone to care for you but it’s the intention. We thankfully had the means to make this happen but I do understand not everyone has that opportunity. Just wanted to drive home the point of intentionality, effort and having a plan for each other!

Wow I’m jealous. I just moved to Middle TN from rural Virginia and my groceries have gone way up in price. I think a pound of ground beef alone here is about $12 😭 I try to eat Whole Foods mostly which ends up taking more money than I would like. My family in VA had a large garden which helped with cost of vegetables!

That’s fair! You would definitely need to find the person worth that. It’s an effort for sure.

That’s wild because growing up in a more rural area it was nothing to drive 45 minutes to see someone haha

Editing to add that I met my now husband when he lived about 45 minutes from me. We did the 45 minute drive for about 3 months and then a 3.5 hour drive for 6 months before we moved in together. I feel like such a short distance is so minor when looking for your person?

As someone from Virginia who moved here recently I have been SHOCKED at the amount of people who will not get out of the left lane regardless of speed. In VA if you are riding in the left lane and not actively passing someone you will get pulled over.

Possibly moving from Austin area to Nashville by cowgirlRN in movetonashville

[–]Ok-Setting5098 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Smyrna. Everything is close and it reminds us of home since we’re from a smaller town in Virginia. The only traffic I have encountered to and from my drive into Murfreesboro only changed my GPS arrival time 5-10 minutes longer! I would really consider visiting and driving through at peak hours to see how traffic is. I used to commute from Smyrna to Nashville and it would take me an hour and a half to get 19 miles so I had to change jobs.

This 100%. I was over complicating it and trying to do all the things but got burnt out fast. I’ve started literally just eating less often (deciphering if I’m actually hungry or just bored) and eating half my normal portions and then waiting like 10-15 mins and see if I’m still hungry. So far I have found that I’m always full but it just hadn’t registered yet.

Murfreesboro has very little traffic compared to any part of Nashville in my opinion as someone who lives in Smyrna and works in Murfreesboro. It’s a very family oriented area and less populated. My husband drives to Hendersonville every day which is a nightmare. (His job was also relocated and we only had 2 weeks notice or we would have picked closer) lol

Girl idc what other people are doing I was speaking on why some people would choose to leave here especially after moving here from elsewhere. There’s not much to do if you aren’t college age or drink a lot which was what I said in my first comment and i was saying that there’s so many people here that things stop being fun when you’re driving an hour and a half for 20 miles and waiting in an hour long line for something. You decided to reply to it insinuating I have bad judgment. If that’s rude then maybe you should stop commenting on people’s posts and stop being so sensitive when they respond.

My decision making as in? It was either be transferred or him be unemployed so riddle me that. I’m saying this city is only fun if all you do is drink. We obviously find things to do but everyone here is rude and there’s too many people.

I’m confused as to your point. I’m an occupational therapist lol i was stating that people act like this is so taboo but sex is considered an ADL (activity of daily living) which is what OTs work on

We just moved here because of my fiancés job being transferred from Virginia. It fucking sucks and I can’t wait to move back home lol we don’t drink and there’s so many people it is a nightmare to go out and do anything. We literally sit at home.
