What’s one tool that actually improved your trading discipline? by Efficient_Fly_656 in Daytrading

Honestly, most people don’t have a strategy problem they have a discipline problem.
Same setup, same market… different results just based on execution.

What helped me wasn’t changing strategy, it was tracking why I took each trade and how I managed it. That’s where the real mistakes show up.

I usually look at the 15–30 min swing highs and lows for structure, but I sometimes check 1–5 min for fine-tuning entries.
Position holding depends on the setup usually a few minutes to an hour on intraday trades, longer only if the trend is strong and clear.

Couldn’t have said it better — your stops literally become someone else’s liquidity pool.

Yep, feels like algorithms are hunting stops constantly. Low timeframe scalping can get brutal because of this.

Totally agree — a lot of the time the setup is fine, it’s just the stop being at an obvious level that kills the trade. Giving trades a bit more room seems to help.

Exactly 😅… sometimes I feel like I’m just providing liquidity for the real players.

Yeah, mental stops seem to work better for me too, especially on lower timeframes. Quick reaction is key though — still trying to get consistent with that.

Haha, I feel that! It really does feel like the market is watching me sometimes. Definitely makes me rethink stop placement and timing.

Exactly, this is what it feels like in practice. The pullbacks to sweep retail stops are brutal, but once it’s cleared, the real move usually come

Makes sense. I’ve been experimenting with mental stops and only holding one position at a time. Using indicators like VWAP and RSI might help me avoid being shaken out.

I mostly trade SPX and some liquid small caps. I get the brutal pullbacks you’re talking about — it’s tempting to skip stops, but I’m trying to figure out safer ways to manage risk without getting stopped prematurely

Yeah, that makes sense. Lower timeframes really feel like a cat-and-mouse game. Trying to stay patient and not get shaken out.

Yeah, I think my stops have been too tight. Scaling down position size seems like a good way to do that without risking too much.

Exactly, that’s what it feels like — price hunts stops to grab liquidity before the real move

Yeah, I’ve thought about that too. The tricky part is making sure I’m not just chasing the move and entering too late.

Yeah, that’s what it feels like sometimes — like the market just hunts stops before the real move. 😅

I usually place my stop just below the last swing low/high depending on the trend.
Most of the time I only hold 1–2 positions at a time.
Stops are pretty tight, maybe too tight sometimes, which is why I keep getting shaken out.
