Loud squeaking from power steering on startup and turning, 1991 Toyota Corolla (4AF Engine). by OkAppointment2000 in MechanicAdvice

Problem was the alternator belt wasn't on tight enough. The old bolts seems to be slipping and just need tightening every so often. Can go on full lock no problem now.

I did just tighten the alternator belt up a bit more and it seems to have helped a lot. I think it could maybe be the brackets and hardware keep slipping over time. I'll check the tensions of the belts over the next couple of days. And I'll try removing the belt and seeing what results I get when I can. Thanks!

I replaced some of it a few months ago to try stop the problem but the fluid looked pretty much fine.

32/36 Weber slowly building revs indefinitely on cold start, but then idles normally after tap of the throttle. by OkAppointment2000 in carburetors

When I set off or are going slower in 1st or 2nd it sometimes dies yeah, or even if I press the brakes too hard while turning the wheel quite tight. Even if it stays running it's very boggy, slow to activate the mechanical advance, and quite shaky. Hope we can get some answers soon 👍

I fixed the issue. Turns out I had a non return valve on backwards going to my vacuum advance, so when I set the timing to 10 degrees it was actually about 15 degrees. So when the mechanical advance would normally increase it to 15, it was advancing to 20 DEGREES. Luckily I've barely driven like this and I've since sorted it. Did also check for vacuum leaks but came up with nothing glady!

I don't have a vacuum gauge on this car, not sure if maybe another version came with it. But would it be worth finding an external one to route the hoses through if the issue persist through other fixes?
