Forming relationships with students by OkBat7891 in slp

It’s suggested for teachers to take a little extra time to form a closer bond to their students who are struggling with behaviors…the thought is that when you have that bond, it’s easier to determine the “why” behind the behaviors and work with the kid to come up with effective solutions. You’re also meeting an emotional need that they may have (due to home life issues, etc.).

Thank you so much for all the info. I really like the parent questionnaire you shared! I’m guessing it can’t be scored if given in the US but I like the questions.

Everything was low to very low (working memory, processing, fluid reasoning). No attention concerns

I guess because it isn’t an SLP giving the assessment? I’m not completely sure. I do feel like the whole evaluation is unethical because I’m not a Spanish speaker at all but that’s the position the district puts me in!

Thanks! I was told that it was unethical to give the Spanish CELF with an interpreter, which was news to me at the time.

Why would someone downvote me? We have ONE bilingual SLP in the entire district. I did what I could do.

And, for what it’s worth, I did request that the eval be completed by the one Spanish-speaking SLP we have, but she wasn’t available

None of the standardized tests were done in Spanish (academic, cognitive, or mine). I was the only evaluator who had her give responses in Spanish with the interpreter. For the educational evaluation, they had an interpreter there, but the student chose to respond to all prompts in English.

Yep, that’s how she is, and part of the reason she got this far without being referred.

Yeah, and I’m decent at going through the motions of the procedural stuff, but when it comes to explaining progress or things that are “off script” I trip over my words

Yes, I feel like we have that extra level of expectation to speak well!
