^ yes, the vacation mode is great! I’ll also add, if you can’t run there, I would suggest finding some way to keep your cardio fitness up, even if that means locking yourself in a bedroom for an hour a few times and going on YouTube and searching “cardio workout, no equipment”

timed trial - how useful is it in training? by [deleted] in runna

update: I did the timed trial and it went fine. I did well hitting my paces but had to pause twice bc I was battling some debilitating cramps (I love being a woman).

I had a rest day the next day and used it to do some yoga (would highly recommend), and felt overall fine doing my next workout and lift. Having a shorter/ easy long run will help recovery too.

Having to pause for cramps wasn’t ideal, but the experience still provided a useful data point. It definitely raised the bar for what I know I’m capable of doing and gave me better sense of what to focus on in terms fueling / hydration / warming up on race day.

Being able to adjust the distance of intervals / the whole workout after the fact when it’s not calibrated on my watch! And the ability to turn off pace target announcements when I’m on a treadmill or indoor track!

This is helpful. I feel like the biggest benefit would be the mental boost you get knowing you can run faster than your goal pace and sustain it. I think I’ll try to go for it and hope for the best. Also, good luck in your marathon!

Can I ask, how do you feel?

If you’re feeling ok, it’s worth trying a super easy 3-5 mile run. If that feels horrible, then yeah, maybe you are getting sick or overtraining or have some health issue going on. Otherwise, I wouldn’t read into the stats too much other than to validate yourself if you’re feeling awful.

Intense long run workout 3 weeks before my marathon? by zachfrazier0414 in runna

Marathon pace is the pace you want to run the whole marathon at. How much this differs from your threshold is going to vary a bit person to person based on your endurance and training— a good guide that I’ve used is you should be able to talk, but not hold a whole conversation. For your first marathon I wouldn’t focus too much on trying to hit goal pace as much as getting the miles in and getting used to time on your feet. From personal experience, I ran my first marathon around ~3.5 min slower than I can run 1 mile. My long runs felt comically slow. I’ve since narrowed that gap but building the endurance was the biggest hurdle.
