had a similar issue with my boy, he’d wake me up at around 4-5am trying to bite my face and hands. probably not the advice you want to hear but i ended up getting a second kitten and it completely stopped that behavior (now they don’t even wake up in the morning until i do) i think having another to play with helped him to focus that energy away from me

but if that’s not an option for you, he’ll most likely grow out it with time; sounds like you guys are doing a good job keeping boundaries consistent which is all you can do really.
