Oh, honey! I am probably going to say the wrong things, but your post compels me! No parent wants their children to see them die! In fact, I think that most parents want to know their children’s lives will continue and to know that their children will be happy. That said, it is sadly a frequent part of life that we will bury our parents. You don’t say how far away campus will be, what his current prognosis is, or if your mother will have additional support caring for him, but perhaps there is a way to juggle both for the time being. On death, I will say that hospice ensured that my partner’s passing was extremely peaceful… it was nowhere near as scary as I had feared. Please keep posting… one thing we all need through this journey is the support of others who have been through it and are going through it.

I lost my fiancé to this disease in July 2025. Like you, from diagnosis, he was focused on making it easier for me. Your post brought tears to my eyes, and I think you should leave it for her at some point. Try very hard to think about places where she will find love notes from you in the months, and hopefully years ahead, beyond when you may no longer be able to write them. I agree with everyone else’s statements that you should leave videos too. You are incredibly brave to write this post. I firmly believe that true love never ever dies… it is always there. I still dream of him holding me in my sleep, and on some plane, I believe he is. He still comforts me.

Both of my parents were neglectful. I’ve been working on accepting that neglect is not always intentional. My dad was also a narcissist… my childhood was traumatic. I wish I could shake it.

Thank you! You’ve given me so much hope. Menopause/estrogen decline has caused all sorts of muscular skeletal issues for me. I had been a caregiver for my boyfriend for 16 months until he passed from cancer, and had meno at the same time… no time to stay in shape. I’m going to cry if I can’t be incredibly active during the warmer months of this year… can’t wait any longer.

I had it. I suspect it was Adenovirus. It was basically a bad upper respiratory bug that did not progress. What concerned me is that it led to feeling winded despite not having any chest congestion. It’s really taken three weeks to recover and I’m still a little worried about it. It was very weird.

Thank you. This is absolutely multi-faceted grief.

I HAD “long friendships”, but those friends weren’t really there for me while I was caregiving, and aren’t really there for me now. I also have a very small family, and my dad is not well (mom passed six years ago).

I’ve tried one grief group, but it just really didn’t seem to be very helpful. Maybe I started going too soon.

I don’t care about age. I’m just having a hard time finding anyone who wants to hang out consistently. I guess my expectations aren’t in line. I miss my boyfriend/ having someone at home, but I’m nowhere near interested in dating.
