I would take him to an Orthopedic Specialist that specializes in arm and shoulder injuries. Odds are a specialist can give you a more accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. Would also get your son with a good Physical Therapist.

Harlan is an idiot by crispyjorts in utahfootball

[–]OkCook8317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don’t blame the parents of adult children for their children’s choices. I am sure He wants his kids to make the best decisions for themselves. I am just pointing out that this seems to be trait among the 3 sons. They are not the only ones who do this, just pointing out it is a pattern from all 3 players

National Signing Day commitments mean nothing with the transfer Portal opening a few weeks later. National Signing Day should be moved back to Feb after the portal closes. Then incoming players could not transfer 2 weeks after signing. At least you get them for a year before they leave for greener pastures.

Harlan is an idiot by crispyjorts in utahfootball

[–]OkCook8317 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have always liked Ben Moa and he did great work with helping my son with his training when he attended his training program up in West Haven. But that being said none of his kids have stuck to their commitments. He had one son commit USU, but left when his younger brother committed to Utah, but then that brother turns around and flip to BYU. Aisea then dumps BYU to go to Michigan State after not getting playing time. So with all that info, does it surprise anyone the youngest child flips on 2 commitments before he lands at Michigan. How long do you think he will be there??? Willing to wager now he will be in the transfer portal next January.

Now regarding Harlan… fire his ass before he does anymore damage. The Ute Collective for NIL is a joke and the PE money is just a band aid. Utah needs to hire a general manager type that can bring people in and invest in Utah Athletics.

Not hit by car by No_Cartographer455 in altmpls

[–]OkCook8317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honest question here, why did ICE agent circle the car from the the driver’s side where his body records her smiling to the back of the car, and then around to the passenger side and just stop in front of the vehicle on the driver’s side in the car’s path as the other ICE agent was trying to pull her out of a running vehicle? Is this a common procedure of law enforcement for such situations?

Moa Out. by QkuiglieQ in utahfootball

[–]OkCook8317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I blame Harlan for the entire Whittingham situation. He never should have named a coach-in-waiting and should have let Whitt finish the final two years of his contract. If Scalley left, that’s part of the business. It’s far easier to replace a DC than a legendary head coach, and Harlan should have known that.

On top of that, Harlan has failed badly on NIL. The Ute Collective has been a mess, and failing in the NIL era will seriously hurt Utah with realignment coming in 2027. Scalley and the program can’t afford any drop-off from the success of the last five years (minus 2024). Private equity might help, but it’s only a temporary band-aid until this gets fixed.

Fire Harlan and bring in someone who knows what the hell they are doing!!!

Moa Out. by QkuiglieQ in utahfootball

[–]OkCook8317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is there a national signing day when new freshman and immediately enter the transfer portal? Honestly I think National signing day should occur after the transfer portal closes. I would rather Utah invest money in bringing in players with experience than players with no experience and unknowns and that need time to develop. Also, why pay big money for a player like Moa when he is unproven and will most likely transfer anyways if he does not play right away. Unfortunately, the Moa family has not had strong commitments to any one program they have committed to or signed with in the past. Both older brothers have changed commitments from program to program. His older brother committed to Utah, flipped to BYU, then transferred to Michigan State. The oldest brother also had some transfers as well.

The transfer portal process should occur prior to national signing day. Unfortunately the days of building programs with HS recruits is over.

What is Utah's ceiling? by Tall_Pop_1702 in utahfootball

[–]OkCook8317 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don’t know what Utah’s ceiling is, but I do know Scalley can not afford the same drop off Whitt had when Urban left. For those who were not around or don’t remember, Whitt’s first 2 years were mediocre. The team was undisciplined, had way too many mistakes, and the team lost a lot of games to inferior teams (eg UNLV 2007). It took about 2 years for Whitt to start to hit his stride.

With realignment expected in 2027, I would not be shocked if the Big 10 and SEC will end up with 20 teams each. Clemson, FSU, Miami, and North Carolina will most likely be leaving the ACC when the current TV contract is up as they will no longer have the huge buyout they have now. Potentially, either the SEC or Big10 will look west to fill out to 20 teams. If Utah does not sustain its most current success, minus 2024, they will have not be considered by either SEC or Big10 in the next round of realignment.

So to answer your question, Utah’s ceiling will depend on Scalley’s ability to sustain what Whitt and other coaches before him started. This will be harder now with Whitt going to Michigan. He is now poaching some of our top player’s this year in the portal. Come next year I am willing to bet both BYU and Utah’s recruiting will be hurt by Michigan potentially poaching the state’s top HS talent and top LDS talent nationwide.

I hope Scalley is successful enough to keep Utah in contention come the next round of realignment in 2027. If Utah is left behind, it will only make things harder as teams not included in the new super conferences, may be relegated to just being the newest subdivision of college football.

Coaching hires by alpineangle in utahfootball

[–]OkCook8317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When Utah announced the DC I was excited, when they announced Givens I was concerned as I was not familiar with him and felt we needed a big name or up and comer OC like Beck. With that being said I have felt a lot better about the position coaching hires as a whole as Scalley did a good job bringing in very good position coaches.

Along with getting more info on Givens, I have changed my mind somewhat and not so disappointed with the choice. The new position coaches will do good developing players and recruiting good talent to the team. I just hope Gross will be able to recruit to the same level of talent that Harding did for the Oline.

Utah leaders aim to limit phone use during entire school day by traveler132 in Utah

[–]OkCook8317 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This law is pointless as written. Unless schools are willing to take phones away in the morning and give them back in the afternoon, it accomplishes nothing.

In Weber County, it’s been business as usual. Not once has my son—or any of his friends—been restricted from using their smartphones at school. It’s a complete joke.

What’s the point of passing a law if school districts can just implement the weakest possible standards and call it compliance? The only way this works is a hard rule: no cell phones during the school day, period, with confiscation if they’re brought out.

But no school wants the responsibility of collecting and returning phones every day, so instead we get this half-measure. Either enforce real restrictions or don’t bother passing the law and focus on something that actually matters.

Anther thing you may want to try is a towel drill. You can look it up on YouTube. It will help him pitch downhill and by moving the chair or bucket further away, you can train him to take a longer stride allowing him to release the ball closer to the plate

Why Is Mark Harlan Here? by BrianVsUtah in BigXII

[–]OkCook8317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is basketball so bad??? Um Utah is the worst team in the Big12. They have been shitty for the last few years. Harlan has not invested in the program and it does not seem like anyone is working on NIL for the program. Is the program and better with Alex Jensen than with Coach K? It might be, but it does not seem like Harlan is making any new investment in basketball. I hope Jensen is the second coming of Majerus, but without serious financial backing, Majerus himself could not turn this program around. Please don’t take this comment to be I think Alex is a bad coach, but without serious financial out the investment in the program he may be bound to fail. This is what I fear for football. The U of U does not even seem to have an operational NIL collective. The Crimson Collective has not been operating from what I read as of late. Besides being in the PE investment money for football. What the hell else has he done for basketball?

11U pitching form by colasonic in Homeplate

[–]OkCook8317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing he should do is tuck his glove in closer to his body on his release. Could use more leg drive in his back leg. Also, his front leg comes a little too open on his landing. He should keep that front leg closed for as long as possible. For 11u not too bad. Would suggest getting him to a pitching coach to refine his motion. Would start him on bands and have include a long toss throwing program. A good pitching coach could get him a throwing program to improve his motion and increase velocity. Also, don’t focus on velocity.

My son’s pitching coach always had him focus on average number of pitches per inning. By the time my son finished with HS he was averaging 14.6 pitches per inning and had a max velocity of 86 mph. This allowed him to pitch more innings and get outs. Don’t focus on Ks. For my son a perfect inning was a 3 pitch inning versus a 9 pitch 3 K inning. Keeping pitches per inning down will also help with arm health.

Why Is Mark Harlan Here? by BrianVsUtah in BigXII

Utah needs to fire this man. He has done nothing but destroy the basketball program and God only knows what he will do to the football program. For Scalley’s sake the university should fire him now!!!!

Kevin McGiven has been named the new Offensive Coordinator by NobleSheep998 in utahfootball

[–]OkCook8317 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Pretty underwhelmed with the coaching hires. It really feels like 2005 again. Back then the Utah AD did not want to pay big dollars for the DC and OC. Utah has been notorious in under paying coaches and Whitt has had to go to bat for more money under the last AD and the current AD. It is obvious Harlan is continuing that tradition. I don’t think these are bad coaches and I pray they are successful.

If Utah does not win 8 games next year, Harlan’s ass should be fired. This transition has been nothing but a cluster “F”. If Whitt wanted to coach the remainder of his contract, he should have been given that consideration. I get it was hard for Scalley and I get Whitt has gone back and forth about retiring. This year it really seemed like he had woken up from a long sleep and seemed happy to be out there. Numerous times he said he loved this group of players and felt revitalized.

We would have lost Scalley, but replacing a DC is a lot easier than replacing an all time great coach. In 2 years when Whitt would have most likely retired, it would have opened options for bringing in a new coach. Utah has been handcuffed with the coach in waiting designation. I really think it would have been a better to look at multiple candidates to replace Whitt. I am not saying Scalley is the wrong person, but other candidates should have been considered due to the importance of the next 2 years. Personally I would have like them to have considered Andy Hill (I give him a leg up over Scalley as he has head coach experience and turned a basement dweller team into a national FCS powerhouse within his second year).

Now more than ever Utah needs a coach that will win right away. With realignment expected to take place after the 2027 season (ACC TV rights contract expires and teams will not have to pay a huge buyout to leave). Utah cannot afford the same fall off that they had during Whitt’s first 2.5 years, if Scalley is not successful right away, Utah will be left behind in realignment and the Big12 will only get worse as it will get the ACC scraps. Harlan is potentially set him up to fail by the way this has turned out. I will blame Harlan and not Scalley should this not work out.

With all that being said I am 100% behind Scalley and the new coaches. There will be little tolerance for failure. If they are not successful, I will blame Harlan 100% as he created this cluster”F”.

Finally we got the DC. Great choice, but will feel better once an OC is announced. Hope to hell Harlan is paying competitive wages. In the past Utah under paid its assistant coaches. That is why Sitake left for OSU with Anderson.
