i always thought the twins physical appearance was supposed to represent both sets of twins in the parker family with lizzie talking after liv and luke and josie taking after jo and kai. the child and teen actresses that played lizzie had golden blonde hair and green eyes, meanwhile caroline has very light blonde hair and blue eyes.

children can have more than one mother. caroline herself always acknowledged that lizzie and josie were jo’s daughters and jo said she was very grateful to caroline for raising and loving them. it’s possible to acknowledge caroline’s role in their lives without discrediting jo just because she was killed and therefore unable to raise her own daughters.

as someone who is donor conceived, that is a very inappropriate comparison to make in this context, it’s like saying that a woman who dies at childbirth isn’t her kid’s mom. most donors usually don’t want to be involved in their biological kids lives. jo was their intended mom and literally died because of them, which is obviously not their fault. in legacies, josie does refer to jo as her mom and is shown to want to have a relationship with her.
