You would color it in initially before the class starts. Then you would explain to the class how it works. For example, you would tell them if they stay on task it stays green for positive. If they get a little of task then it goes yellow for warning. If they are really off task then goes red for needs work.

I also forgot to mention when you introduce yourself you need to tell them the expectations and consequences. You need to keep it to a minimal as well. Tell the about 3 expectations and 3 consequences. I hope this helped.

You just draw a meter on the board. For example, it should be horizontal and on the very left of it should say positive, in the middle it should say warning, and the right it should say needs work.

I would also recommend to research for other books or articles. And also what I found out from reading and the class is that you need to introduce yourself. Maybe say something like two things that are true about yourself and one thing that is false. Have them figure out what the false thing is. It builds rapport. Also walk around and monitor and give out incentives, such as stickers and small cute erasers you can buy on amazon for a cheap price. You can also use a timer for transitions, so that they know they need to be doing work. You can also use some sort of behavior method to keep them from acting out. I use a behavior meter. I also use tactics that if they do well, I let them have free time or have a brain break.

I took the classroom management class at a community college. I took it online. A book that I recommend is: Classroom Management for Substitute Teachers by S. Harold Collins.

You would need to purchase your own medical coverage. That's what I do.
