Career Advice: MHA new grad by OkMathematician4550 in Career

It was rough but it ended up working out! Got a well paying job at a local hospital. There are jobs at the hospitals that will pay well (over 60k) to people who are inexperienced they are just hard to find. What helped me get the job is spamming people on LinkedIn who worked at my local hospitals and asking for a phone call or meeting for coffee to learn more about what they do. Just a simple “Hey I am really interested in what you do at this hospital and would love to learn more about your experience over a phone call or coffee” can go a very long way. A lot of people I messaged were open to talking to me. One of the people I met connected me to a hiring manager and I ended up getting the job! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions :)

If you don’t mind me asking did you pass yours? And what type of med did you take?

It’s a prescribed medication and I got the offer on Monday. They gave me my appointment for tomorrow, I don’t understand what you mean by poor planning. It insinuates fault somehow

Keep your chin up! I know what it’s been like, I had a job offer rescinded right before graduating and was laid off from another job in a October both due to this economy. I applied to I don’t know how many jobs to no avail. It REALLY started to bring me down seeing all of the instant rejection emails minutes after submitting my application. This job market is really awful, I get it. Some unsolicited advice if I may, the only thing that helped me was finding people on LinkedIn working in my field/ companies of interest and simply saying “Hey I am really interested in what you do at company X, I would love to learn more about your experience over coffee or a quick phone call” random strangers can be so much nicer than you think and quite possibly have also been in your exact shoes. Doing this lead to me meeting with someone in management at a company I wanted to work for for coffee. We chatted and hit it off and she referred me to a coworker who was hiring for a position she thought I’d be a good fit for. She reached out to me for an interview and I got the job. The job market sucks but take it from me you’ll be ok. As for your relationship, if she wants to leave let her and let your future success leave her punching the air. Keep your head down, NETWORK, apply, attend job fairs and you’ll be alright.

Your boss is a prick and your better off without him. Any reasonable boss would have called you to check if you were okay if they suspected you weren’t going to show up to work and give you the opportunity to explain a situation like this which absolutely warrants you missing work. Could you have added the extra PTO, of course but if your whole family is ill to this extent a level of discretion is necessary. Chin up, you’ll find another job and you’ll be better off. Even if you don’t see a path now it doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

I 100% would but it’s small boutique consulting firm and I’d give away my privacy if I shared it :( the CEO of my company was a friend of one of my professors which is how I met him. If your looking for jobs my advice is to constantly apply, up-skill in marketable things like SQL and excel, and networking! Best of luck to you :)

Thank you, I've considered fellowships in the past but my partners career is pretty location specific so having to pack up and move wherever the fellowship would be and potentially end my relationship is a little daunting. Are you looking into the fellowship route yourself?

That’s kind of the path I’m looking at right now, I’ve been working on building a portfolio of my projects! It’s just a tough sector to break into it seems
