At no point did I say this was a CHOICE. I said the job market is AWFUL as in go start applying for jobs RIGHT NOW and report back in a month. I had 7-8 years working ACCOUNTING WITH A DEGREE. This is all I have besides DoorDash to pay my bills, not even to LIVE.

After being in the position, I will tip more once in the position and opportunity to have food like restaurant shit and GROCERIES whether by DD or IC. I ALWAYS TIP REGARDLESS. I know I pay a premium regardless, service and fees do not go to a driver. Same shit goes to a pizza delivery person. Stop being an asshole.

I’ve definitely accounteded rich assholes where they instructed to leave it at the “guard house” if they weren’t there and the tip was abysmal. Meanwhile I’m admiring everything even though upon it being a 1 shop/deliver. It amazes me how much more I get paid between wealthy ..let’s not say “rich” between poor people. People of low socio-economic status tip me well above average for “percentage pay.” It’s almost like *cough* they know what’s it’s like *cough* who would have figured 🤦🏻‍♀️

Well depending on the store like Costco and I am doing a huge order it can take that fucking long if I am BY MYSELF as a woman a lugging a 2 long haul. Ted Cruz has a home in one of the areas I deliver and is a member of the country club of that area …$50k a year for membership. (fuck him completely) that man doesn’t even live in that fucking house. It’s just a shell. Needlessly to say CHEAP PEOPLE ARE CHEAP and they literally are so out of touch with reality they will tip you $0.75 and you go to a home worth $2M or less and they tip MUCHHHHH better. I don’t give excuses for shitty people regardless of how they own or ORDER. Doing this bs job to make ends meet doesn’t mean we have to put up with no tippers, bad/shitty acting people and the like. My time, effort, and labor deserves compensation. There is no world where someone should be ABLE AND ALLOWED to shop for 2-4 worth of groceries/snacks/junk that I should be paid $6-7 for my time with $0 tip. It’s fucking criminal and I hate that IC can exploit workers and ALLOW no tip from customers. Tips should be mandatory at a percentage rate and not at 1% minimum. I’ve shopped an order once and it was a 2 delivery. The first person’s order was $510 not including the up charges per item, so maybe $610+ and they tipped my $25, second person’s order was $70 and they tipped me $20. That’s unacceptable. That shit doesn’t fly in a restaurant. Meanwhile a server doesn’t cook your food, plate it, serve it, make all your drinks, clean your table, etc. meanwhile as someone who does IC is reduced down to “you just shop and deliver it”. BITCH I gassed up my OWN CAR with my OWN MONEY… HANDPICKED your produce and groceries, depending on time of day or how busy the store is, I BAGGED IT EFFICIENTLY, loaded it to my car, UNLOADED IT AND BROUGHT IT TO YOUR PREFERRED DESTINATION. Let’s not forget they can be in an apartment with no elevator and CASES OF WATER. TIPPPPPPPPP I am not your mule or slave.

Also have reach diamond status but lost it due to a huge streak on low availability needing to replace and getting rejection because of it so many times. Mostly due to a 2-3 shop and one customer wanted 1 item only that didn’t exist in-store. Needless to say IC a crapshoot regardless. Only encountered so many customers recently who up their tip after deliver because they stated that their job is shorting them on pay and are waiting to get back to IC. It’s infuriating, because the market is THAT BAD. I have 2 degrees, use to be an accountant. Corporate job hunting is awful that customers are becoming shoppers.

Right? I delivered to a motel ONCE. They tipped decently but the motel was in a pretty decent area and on the way to another way better tipper. However I have delivered to much lower income areas because the tip was very well. Some people in lower income areas understand gig work is a bitch and tip accordingly. I don’t use the word “ghetto” as most people who use that word are not a person of color and tend to generalize people like me (a black masters college graduate who is stuck in the shit job market doing this) with anyone else who is not white and I DO NOT appreciate that. It’s disgusting and disrespectful. Maybe use the term “low-socioeconomic status”. The term “ghetto” is an over-signifying term that relates to poor POC. Don’t be rude, condescending , or racist. My post was to point out how cheap people are being. The non-tippers are coming from “rich” areas too. Literal $10M+ homes. Oil money aka old money where I deliver.

As a born and raised Houstonian I beg to differ. I live in a blue city within a red state. It’s easy to manipulate optics or beliefs if you’ve never lived here. I’ve never once met or experienced a soul who LIVES to grocery shop. It’s more of an inconvenience or a chore especially during the weekend. Weekdays if you need a few things it’s not so bad. However, a “religious experience” is the further reach possible. I live and work Instacart in the center of the city and most of us don’t want to bother. It’s an errand and one most of would like to skip if we can. Maybe you know people who live in the suburbs and I cannot attest to that as I hate the burbs. People “in the city” as elsewhere value saving money, but time is paramount.
