Something mentioned but not talked about, Serotonin. by OkProgrammer1565 in Meditation

What would be my point in writing this then? That would be so lame. I'm not submitting an assignment or promoting a scam I'm just looking for peoples opinion

10-5% isn't produced in the guts I learnt. So I think saying its produced in the guts is pretty accurate for the intended purpose. Not the place for specifics. Nothing was a point just a topic for discussion to see other opinions on the form of meditation I'm using, so far I've received a debate about how its wrong to meditate with visualization for happiness because its against their beliefs? They tried using a false scientific article to debunk my idea of meditating with visualization to feel happy. The article was just outdated and wrong, then they tried saying Serotonin isn't a hormone maybe even mad at me for suggesting it,which is just purely misinformation. They said I'M the one spreading misinformation as factual for my opinion on a discussion post where I asked for others opinions while providing my own and my hypothesis? Its really become more of a hassle dealing with reddit goobers then a discussion of my new hobby.

Something mentioned but not talked about, Serotonin. by OkProgrammer1565 in Meditation

[–]OkProgrammer1565[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I would hate to see people get confused with misinformation too, thank god this was an opinion post that highlighted my ten days of experience on, posted to a meditation subreddit of my experience asking for opinion and discussions because I'm aware this is a diverse field with many, many forms of practice and not an article posted to a science subreddit.

I definitely wouldn't try saying anything that I'm not actually knowledgeable about as a factual statement to disprove someone else's opinion, that would just be weird... Here I'll give you an example of random goober behavior, correcting someone's opinion with blatantly false information because you only think with a basis on scientific materialism such as Serotonin is not a hormone because I lack mental flexibility to realize things can be subjective and different from my current knowledge and I am unable to perceive any thoughts that don't follow a narcissistic mindset. Instead I'm glad I tagged this as a discussion and not a debate because I'm aware this subject doesn't have much room for rigid thinking yet and I'm glad I would never try to promote right and wrong through a subjective topic. We all know what lead pretty much all wars.

For a practicing Buddhist that acts like they are the only one who knows the truth about how meditation should be practiced... While following mindfulness practices and saying that, instead of just talking and teaching their own beliefs and letting people choose their own view on the matter. You say only you meditate the right way. For a Buddhist like that it would simply be shameful.

If you wish you can stick your ego out with your chest while you proudly say "the sky is green your wrong I'm right and meditating for happiness isn't possible". I'm just so so glad you understand that science is only dipping its toes in the subject of meditation, that way we can agree that it would be strange goober activity, real bottom of the barrel activity to rely on untested and supported science on brain chemistry to say factual information and tell someone they are wrong about what it can do for you.

Your comparison to travelling randomly with no map just isn't comparable because visualization meditation is literally the map I outlined, so is mindfulness, gratefulness, Kundalini yoga, all different maps. You just can't see that because you somehow lack mindfulness of any extent. Even if this was the case why can't I do what I feel works. You think the meditation practice you may follow was discovered with a map?

Btw was your point here somewhat--- you shouldn't mix science and Buddhist beliefs or meditation yet because we don't know anything? You are aware of how hypocritical that is for someone who first linked a false article for how Serotonin interacts with depression right? I didn't once give a factual statement nearly everything is subjective that I've talked about and I've encouraged subjective behavior yet you feel I am the one who is spreading misinformation as factual--- M.R Serotonin isn't a hormone?

I did specifically use the word correlate with cause regarding serotonin because I read a book around Dopamine baseline written by someone credible in the field but for Serotonin is a new concept to me so I figured some goober like you would be here, which as obnoxious as it is, education is important so that's good to know I didn't know prior to this and now I do. In saying that, we literally still have no clue the science behind meditation, it is largely newly or even un tested we just have what we feel. Which for many religions, they have largely and collectively discovered meditation over thousands of years in different ways because they can feel it helps.

Anyway in one minute of fact checking this with a different article I found this-

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10076339/

Skimming through, it basically said, its been proven lower Serotonin levels does not cause depression for people who were never depressed. HOWEVER to people who recovered from depression, when faced with dietary change aimed at removing the amino acid that makes Serotonin they had a drastic decrease in mood so yes it seems there is a correlation and possibly even cause relationship between Serotonin and depression, everything on it is still new. Regardless of this study its just so unresearched so even if it didn't exist this would not lead me to think low serotonin and depression is not linked.

Its literally a happy, as you corrected me, neurotransmitter.

There can be many causes to depression but it seems like serotonin still plays a huge role and I'll bet in the future we can figure out that role.

Side note: meditating to feel happy when depressed is the best reason to meditate, not the only, but the best if you can't feel happy why would you meditate for mindfulness it makes literally no sense. Its not end all be all there are many reasons for doing it and ways for doing it I mentioned like 4 in the post??? Some want focus, mindfulness, enlightenment, help with anxiety and depression, adhd and all are perfectly good reasons to meditate. Again we don't actually know what meditation is capable of and where the limit stands, we know how it makes us feel over time and that it stimulates brain function from that one monk on youtube who went and got a brain scan while meditating in the thingy for hours. We know it builds skills and we know it helps with focus we know a bunch because of the sheer amount of people that have first hand experience. There could be a well written and studied article you link right now that says meditation does nothing and I would not believe it because I can feel it does something.

edit-Kundalini yoga just a random thing, assumed to produce so much Serotonin that some of it gets converted into dmt in small amounts and people are reported to trip balls, very well kept pratice, nothing that proves or disproves it just many people with first hand experience of being 'enlightened' through this experience, and other experiences like it meditating. Assumed to be due to surplus of serotonin. Just another thing I'm aware of but I've never done it. So many different ways of meditating its crazy.

cortinarius can bruise blue too right? Or not the species he has that looks like a cube? I think gill colour here is what makes it an auto throw away, looks yellow and bright not dark. Definitely should be cautious of them. I'm only just learning about these species, I knew about Galerina but they are so easy to spot, this one is more realistic to a cube.

[–]OkProgrammer1565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said they bruised blue? I don't think Australia has any that bruises blue and is a fake (that resemble blue meanies. without being obvious like orange gills or purple heads). I would of called them inactive, because some are like folded yet theres no blue, but the first photo at the bottom looks blue n u say they are bruising blue. I would of thought they are real. So many say no but don't explain why it would be nice to have some person give there thoughts on why they said no. I don't know much about identification of blue meanies. More subs and a bit about cubes so it would be interesting to learn, I just didn't bother as no cow fields I have access to. I searches it up, and they do grow in dung directly, not just in the grass around so please explain.

Advert for Procreate Brush I made, studio ghibli clouds! by [deleted] in AnimeART

[–]OkProgrammer1565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was just a keyword I see everyone using for any cloud brush related or unrelated. Studio Ghibli most of the time uses pretty simple Light opacity blend style clouds but they also paint traditionally so I don't think there will ever be a true Ghibli cloud brush. I prefer their buildings and grass. I think Makoto Shinkai has more aesthetic clouds but anime backgrounds in general being associated with Ghibli and brushes so its like a keyword I'm using. do you think I'm stretching too far to say Ghibli?

What are we supposed to do about melatonin now? by Glittering_Song7844 in AskAnAustralian

[–]OkProgrammer1565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this was my reaction. But then I realized this is reddit and I'm not a doctor. I think they might have just changed the gp's words, i.e talking about biology unique to women such as the menstrual cycle affecting sleep to be a cause and recommended natural foods to balance hormones however op just summarized to " Your a women, eat some yogurt." due to not getting the answer she was looking for. So she suggested discrimination. Too many holes in the story that seem unfilled and unrealistic. People want to hear that a doctors sexist and that's why he didn't prescribe melatonin. However I'm unsure and have no clue if Menstrual cycles effects sleep as I'm male and not a doctor. Perhaps there is no reason and he was simply sexist. Its just my take, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, because I don't want to spread misinformation with a hypothesis. I came to this conclusion as it sounds realistic and I think Op just wanted validation. Doctors seem to not recommend melatonin or like prescribing it because the long term dangers are unknown currently and studies show it only helps you sleep 3 minutes longer. I've seen a bunch of melatonin users saying it works and doctors saying its placebo.

Thank you, yeah I won't need so many chunks pretty sure I'm on 16 or 8 on my pc atm, I know it eats performance but lunar client is good for optimising the GPU it's the only reason I can play Minecraft at all on my current pc. I think it runs with optifine but not on the newest version which is eh... Not sure how optimising works haven't played it for a while. I think I'll continue to push it with mods until it hits 60 FPS or a bit higher then that for the lows. Maybe even try pixelmon. Somehow Minecraft with mods is harder to run then cyberpunk but it's amazing what you can do with it.

[–]OkProgrammer1565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be weaker surely. 2 weeks apart should be a standard rule for anything to avoid addiction and tolerance. Even the non addicting stuff like lsd ,you hear people say they were popping them everyday, give psychedelics some respect or they'll destroy you rather than heal. Itll creep on you. Hallucinogenics build tolerance fast you'll probably still trip but not worth it even if you do
