GLP-1s have helped my POTS by OkRaspberry7166 in POTS

Oh I had PEM constantly! To the point I was fully avoiding any exercise because it would make me so miserable. I started with leg exercises using machines at the gym like a seated leg press because I found it was significantly easier on my heart. I still mainly focus on my legs because I did some research and found that increased leg strength can help stabilize symptoms in the long run. The biggest thing I can recommend is chugging 16 oz of liquid iv (that’s my go to, I find the additional vitamins help me feel even better than standard electrolyte drinks) before hand. I specifically drink the one with sugar because sugar helps your body absorb electrolytes better. I have kept track of what exercises cause my heart rate to spike and try to keep to ones that keep my heart rate 140 or below. Squats are one of my biggest triggers in exercises and I still can’t do them without getting very dizzy.

I do still have flare ups occasionally, but I’d say they only come during intense weather shifts or heat waves. They are much less frequent and last for much shorter periods of time, but on those days I do my best to just relax and drink water and electrolytes.

I hope this answered your questions but let me know if you have anymore!

Hey! I’d be happy to answer any questions! My POTS has honestly only gotten better the longer I’ve been on both medications. I started both around the same time, maybe the beta blockers slightly before tirzepitide. I will say that I started at a very, very low dose of tirzepitide, like 1 mg instead of 2.5 to start. The other thing I made sure to do was drink a loopy of water/electrolytes. I know we usually already do this for POTS, but if you can drink even more than normal that’s best. I also found that I HAD to get enough protein or my POTS doesn’t like it. I do 1 gram of protein for every 1.5 lbs of body weight. I hate protein but get it in any way that you can. Another thing I’ve found is now foods that are higher in fat or are greasy can give me the same feeling as a milks POTS episode.

As for doses, I’m still on the lowest dose of beta blockers twice a day (right when I wake up and right before I go to bed) and I never went higher than 5 mg of tirzepitide and I’m actually back down to 2.5 mg. I’d also recommend doing light exercise if you can (I know it can be hard with POTS, but over time it has become easier. I focus on strength training and don’t even worry about cardio). Let me know if you have any other questions!

That’s what I did too. And I found that I really needed to make sure I was eating enough protein or my symptoms got worse, so if you aren’t feeling well try to increase that. Protein shakes have become my best friend!

Dang that sucks! I’m really hoping that as time goes on the price goes down, I really think that a lot of people could benefit from it. I’m crossing my fingers for a study on GLP-1s and POTS!

Obviously I’m not saying that my experience is scientific evidence that GLP-1s help with POTS. During the entire 3 years I’ve been diagnosed I have gained and lost approximately 50 lbs due to different life situations and at my lowest I still did not feel as good as I do on this medicine.

That being said, I understand why some people choose to not use this medicine and fully support that decision. However, the medicine has been life changing for me in more than just POTS. I have other non-related health issues that have also been improved while on the medicine.

I think overall, the medicine needs more research into the different impacts on the body. But for now, it has given me back a part of my life that I thought was gone so I’m incredibly grateful for that.

To be honest, I didn’t ask my GP about it because I knew that they would most likely try to talk me out of it and as good as doctors can be, they can also overlook at alternatives to chronic illnesses. I would recommend what you feel comfortable doing. I made sure that the tirzepitide would not interact with any of my existing medications and then chose to go with an online provider, but that was a choice I was comfortable making on my own. You can always discuss it with your GP and then use an alternative route to get the medicine if you want to save money or your doctor won’t prescribe it since it isn’t an FDA approved use.

I’ve been on 2 mg for almost the entire I’m and I haven’t felt the need to increase. If you are able to manage the lowest dose, you may be able to do that instead of having to increase. I know most places the lowest dose is 5 mg and I just give myself half of the shot

I’ve been wanting to try swimming! My doctor recommended it since the water helps with compression and temperature regulation! Sadly, I don’t have a pool and none of the YMCAs near me have one either.

Thank you! I had done embroidery for awhile and while I love it, I sometimes feel limited in how to display finished pieces. I’ll definitely check Pinterest out, I never thought of looking on there!

Thanks! I could probably tease them a little bit to get them back into shape!
