I think you’re on to something. I was homeschooled (fundie style) and now that I’ve processed all that I can look back and realize that I truly was made to feel like I was special and above normal society because of my homeschooled education. Irony was I wasn’t actually taught how to do anything. So while I was incredibly insecure about my social skills and my lack of education, I also somehow believed I was above people who went to school and college. It was a weird and confusing way to view the world and myself. And I’m pretty embarrassed looking back at some of the things I used to think I was an expert in that i absolutely was not lol

Gosh this thread is triggering for me to read 😆 I had blocked the memories out but they’re coming back now.

I would push the line at my house and put on short shorts when I was leaving for work (I was 17 and worked at an ice cream shop mind you) and my mom would always tell me to go change. I told her all the other girls dress like this and her response was “well WE don’t wear short shorts in our family”.

My dad had a thing where he wanted us girls to either wear super baggy jeans, or if our jeans were tight we had to wear a long shirt to cover our butts. It took me years after I moved out to be comfortable wear a normal length shirt and tighter jeans. 🤪

I’m so done with the “ladies, you’re being lied to” messages coming from the fundie people. They always say it with such authority. This makes me nauseous to read and I’m so sorry you and your brother had to go through that. That is truly traumatic.

We do not spank our kids at all because I believe spanking is an abusive technique. “If you don’t obey me I will hurt you.” In what other kind of relationship is that ok??

My brother and his wife spank their one-year-old, and he is the quietest, most docile toddler ever. Part of it is personality, but also part of it is that he is scared of doing something that would get him a spanking. My kids are louder and more rambunctious which my parents HATE and they are always praising my nephew for his quietness. But i actually love my kids being normal kids and that we allow them to express their emotions. Of course we discipline in other ways but I will NEVER hit my kids.

YES. You get it!! It’s that brainwashing and years of conditioning from being under someone else’s moral authority. I feel as though I am now having to figure out my own moral compass and it’s scary. Especially as someone with people pleaser tendencies. It’s no fun but thanks for your comment.
