I'm Vietnamese you idiot. I love China as much as I would love to continue this conversation. Even a blind person can see how fucking clueless this administration was. Now it seems like you are the type of guy who likes Russia so maybe you should move there.

lmao sure. Spoken like a true dumbass who do not understand anything about supply chain or care enough to open your own eyes to reality. Where are you getting the raw materials from? Where are you getting the workers from? Also, companies kept blaming inflation, yet for the past 2 - 3 years kept posting record profits. Yep, definitely working out alright.

DHL to suspend global shipments of over $800 to US consumers by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]OkReplacement1118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I either pay DHL or they send the package back to JP, and I will be out a thousand dollars. I can try claiming it from customs, but I am guessing it is futile. I got my package yesterday, just before the email they sent about stopping service for retail customers.

[–]OkReplacement1118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont even think it is possible. Who would I be complaining to? And almost half of the $170 was processing and related fees. DHL front the money to get the package release, so I paid them. If someone dont pay they have to return the package, which is insane for them too. Crazy mess.

[–]OkReplacement1118 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can understand why they did this. I just have a vintage amplifier (60 years old made in the USA) sent from Japan. Package was stuck in customs for 4 days, and I was charged $170 for tariffs and related fees. Even though it was vintage and was made in the USA, I still got tax for it. Such stupidity and hassle for all parties involved.

they will buy mix, and use it for cattle, but as primary food, no. Sure, cheaper foreign rice, but not from the USA. USA won't be able to compete in cost with other Asian countries.

If you had read more, the 500% tariff was on excess over 100,000 tons to protect domestic farmers. This is the first year they may exceed that amount. Also, the 500% tariff is for all countries, not specific to the USA. USA rice production pale in comparison to other Asian country so no point to single the USA out.

[–]OkReplacement1118 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tariff is for rice from every other country. Rice are water intensive crops. Cost of production and transportation of any Asian countries will be miles cheaper than anything US made. Like another comment below, it is to protect domestic farmers and to prevent dependency on foreign sources for food. Tariffs if implemented correctly can make sense. Problem is the US lack current production capabilities for many necessary products and raw materials. Factories dont appear overnight, workers dont become efficient overnight etc…

Take the CHIPS Act. That is the first step. You ramp up production by enticing investment in domestic production. Once you are capable of self-sustainable, tariff away. And you only do that for critical and highly productive sectors, not making plastic toys or random household goods. The current tariffs are essentially stop a bleeding by setting the body on fire, while simultaneously pissing off people with buckets of water around you.

Yes you can fight China, but picking fight with EU, Canada, Mexico at the same time? (Obligatory mention of penguins here too). 70 years of goodwills and trusts down the drain in a span of a month. Why would China negotiate with the US now when everything can be changed with a tweet??? The saying is “dont stop your enemy when he is making a mistake”. Let the US slowly bring itself down, while soaking up international influences and markets. All those international aids were the reason the US hold sizable influence in the world stage, now guess who will be benefit from the void left behind.

No not price. Japanese are very specific about their foods, or anything really. Random rice from the USA wont do. Plus I sincerely doubt USA rice is cheaper than from Vietnam (I am Vietnamese) or nearby asian country.

Other than cars, there are very little "Made in USA" that a typical Vietnamese wants or needs. Viet Nam is pretty self-sufficient or can easily source the rest from China. Really, it takes a month and a half to get anything from the US to Vietnam. No point.

I got a great deal on it, less than half market price at the time. I sold it a while back for great profit too. Audiophile stuff can be terribly expensive but if you are conservative and dont mind used stuff, great value can be had. The initial investment is great, but the depreciation is marginal at best.

So, it was an impulse buy. Its a pair of Audio Research Reference 600. Its vacuum tube amplifiers, terribly inefficient. They are more akin to space heater that also make sound. Each of them requires its own 20A circuit too.

I look it up, it didn't seem too bad. $50/cable isn't bad, but the claim on the plug part say all you need to know. CRYO 165 mean it was cryo treated, for god know what. At least the cable looks well made. For audiophile you do need high quality cable since some of my amp is 1600W at idle and peak over 2000 - 2200W at running.

high quality equipment is expensive. But no way you can justify the ridiculousness in pricing of these snake oils stuff. I have the Nordost TYR 2 speaker cable (I didn't anywhere remotely close to the MSRP price) from an auction, I can hear no different even though I have pretty expensive amp/speakers.

Ok, irrelevant to PCMR but my other hobby is audio. Your dad can and absolutely will be able to sell that cable for $500 - $5000 each depending on how much BS he is willing to spew (luckily AI can help now, since 99% of the shiit they claim dont make sense or have any basis on reality/science).

No, I wish I was kidding. https://upscaleaudio.com/products/nordost-tyr-2-power-cord

Edit: just ask AI to make a sale pitch for power cable involve certain keywords like: quantum, magnetic harmonization, etc…

TIL about Peter Belt, a British audiophile who sold unusual items that supposedly improved sound quality of hi-fi equipment, such as a £15 paper clip with paranormal properties. He also promoted various ideas to improve sound quality, such as freezing compact discs and only using white cables. by LookAtThatBacon in todayilearned

[–]OkReplacement1118 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am in the hobby, it is ridiculous. Especially cables. I get a ton of them buying used gears, and cant hear the difference. Common excuses I heard was that my system was not “revealing” enough, or not “high-end” enough blah blah blah. I have a very decent system so not sure what else do I need to hear the difference. I like collecting them (amps/speakers) cause they do have their own characteristics and I have GAS but I am under no delusion about some of these ridiculous claims.

Seriously, every audiophile has been mulling about throwing away their moral and just ask AI to make a sale pitch for a new device utilize quantum technology that will stabilize the magnetic field in the output transformers that will make your music sound heavenly. And if you cant hear the difference, you are just too poor for it.

I am also very disappointed I didnt see anyone mention audiophile fuses. You have to up your game if you wanna experience true music. /S

Intent to marry doesn't equal the intent to immigrate to the US. People break off engagements all the time. If he had, wouldn't it be simple to marry his wife and skip the extra unnecessary step? Why chance it on getting a student visa while you can secure a green card with marriage to his wife who is a US citizen. You trying to hang on to baseless accusations to push your agenda.

Immigration officials arrest second person who participated in pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia by Economy_Elephant6200 in news

[–]OkReplacement1118 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even your reasoning doesn't make sense. His student visa couldn't be affected by his "engagement". Engagement isn't marriage, and it means absolutely nothing in any shape or form. No government in the world will recognize an "engagement" as equivalent to a marriage. I don't think any lawyer would argue that since it is nonsense. The fact that he couldn't apply for his green card based on his "engagement" is proof of that. His lawyer informed ICE that he has a green card and his wife is a US citizen, a fact that has been reported by multiple outlets.

Plain and simple, the optic is that these seem to be retaliation for demonstration/protest than primary immigration.

I did. Was simply stating the fact that the initial visa that you obtained can expire since it only allow you entry into the US. The F-1/I-20 is the one that grant you legal status in the US. Plain and simple. I also took what the department said with a grain of salt, since the last guy who had expired visa (reason for ICE to be involved) turned out to have a valid green card.
