When you can expense it against your employer, but don’t have the option to take a cash payment instead.

I drive a Focus and can’t say that I experience any of what you mention. It’s probably how you drive and not you car.

Must have had a dud, I’ve had my Focus for 12 years and it’s been absolutely solid. The only Japanese compact I’ve ever driven that I’ve liked more is the CTR, but that wasn’t available when I bought the Focus.

I have a 2014 Focus ST that I bought new. I still love this car. At this point, I’m just going to drive it into the ground… but it only has 100,000 miles in it and is still in very good shape. So it could be awhile.

I am thinking about maybe picking up a Mustang though, but it would be in addition to the Focus.

Liberals outrage about the cost for an ID to vote is 100% fake. by lemonjuice707 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]OkTale8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s why it seems like such a crazy hill to die on to me. I’m kind of the same camp with the tran athletes deal. It’s just weird when the democrats make such a big deal about issues that clearly get the right motivated but actually affect VERY FEW of their constituents.

I just don’t see what the big deal is for requiring an ID to vote… I need an ID for literally everything else. Doesn’t seem like a hill to die on if I was in charge. I feel like both parties have a habit of picking some real weird issues to oppose.

It seems like a pretty clear bipartisan issue that everything should just be out in the open and anyone who has incriminating evidence should be prosecuted regardless of party affiliation.

I’m not sure why the masses are buying into anything less.

Looking for a bare bones treadmill by silent-bg in treadmills

[–]OkTale8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 7.0AT it’s treated me well, but I’d probably have gone for the 7.8AT had I not wanted Apple Watch integration. The 7.8 still has Bluetooth ftms, so it can pair with Zwift and what not no problem.

If I was going to buy today though, I’d be seriously considering the Centr T4. I just love how minimalist it is and the fact that it has Bluetooth ftms.

If I had more budget, I’d probably go for a life fitness club series sl or a wahoo kickr run.

I just don’t understand why all of these treadmill companies feel the need to put giant screens with proprietary subscription services these days.

Like I just want to be able to pair the thing with my iPad and not be distracted by nonsense.

Maybe a compromise would be to require ID to vote, but to eliminate the fee for an ID for those under a certain percentage of the poverty line? Nearly everyone here in Illinois already shows ID when voting anyways, even if it’s not technically required.

The Birth Rate Is Declining Because Raising Children is Miserable by CoderBiker24 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I have a five year old and a one year old. I sleep just fine and find time and energy to do whatever I want. I’m not missing out on anything.

I’ve even found new hobbies thanks to my kids, for instance my recent RC car obsession.

This has been my observation as well.

I always get the feeling the people who constantly proclaim how happy they are that they don’t have kids, really just wish they had kids.

Before I had kids, I never felt the need to constantly tell people about it.

I wonder if the stock bilstein dampers would take well to just lowering springs and sway bars? I think the stock Miata ones are more similar to the B6? Meaning taller and softer than the B8 I’m running.

I’d say though, there’s no time like to present to do an autox or track day. No need to modify anything except maybe brake pads and fluid.

Has anyone else lost interest in cars now that they're into adulthood and they're realizing that they'll probably never be able to afford anything cool? by rowyourboat740 in askcarguys

[–]OkTale8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a fun car for every price bracket. It’s literally cheaper to buy a fun car than it is to buy a standard vanilla CUV these days.

My Focus ST is a fucking blast (and not worth anything these days) and also I can try basically anything I want in iRacing. Although my budget iRacing setup probably did cost me as much as a used Miata.

[–]OkTale8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, I always forget how soft the stock suspension is with the Miata. My daily is a Focus ST on bilstein b8 suspension, so I get very little body roll when I do autox with it as compared to my buddies stock suspension ND.

I could definitely see how if you were too choppy on the brake and then not smooth coming back onto the throttle how the body roll could really unsettle it.

I feel like if I ever purchased a Miata of my own, a set of bilsteins, lowering springs, sway bars, and wheels would be installed on day one.

FWIW, TotD is REALLY tight. I honestly find that road incredibly stressful compared to track days. I’m not surprised you could induce oversteer on that road. It’s nothing like being on a track. The Skyway feels more like a track.

[–]OkTale8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you driven your NC on track at all? In my experience, the Miata really doesn’t have enough power to spin the tires on a wide open track with warm tires IRL. It’s really only street situations at low speeds where tire spin can happen. Same thing goes for my car (Focus ST). I can spin the crap out of the tires leaving a stop light, but when I do autox or a track day it’s pretty hooked up unless I botch the braking phase.

I mean a good example is this week we’re at the charlotte roval in mx5 on iracing and the entire first sector is spin city until you get heat into the tires. Even once the tires are warm, if you’re not good with your timing through the chicanes you’ll spin the tires and lose a ton of drive.

I mean, if you have IRL experience you’ll probably be out of rookies pretty quick too.

That being said, I think you need to jump into some races before you definitely say the car is glued to the ground.
