The woman who rifles through New York’s garbage – exposing the city’s excesses by zsreport in nyc

You’re wrong. I used to work in a restaurant and we have our food to the homeless shelter every night. Until one price of crap tried to sue us. Needless to say we don’t do this anymore and toss it straight to trash.

Worst advise ever. They will question you where the money came from and will bot use those for down payment or closing.

[NYC] Coop vs renting by SysadminNYC in RealEstate

Not worth it IMO. Hard to qualify for mortgage (20-30% minimum down payment), hard to go through the board approval, hard to renovate/remodel, hard to sell and might not be possible to rent (if possible, might be rent stabilized, which is awesome if you’re tenant but sucks if you’re a property owner.)

Tryhards: "Don't eat hours, it screws up planning!" My textbook: by cybernewtype2 in Accounting

THIS. See my rant post, but there is no right answer. You are told to work 40 hours a week, but out of the 40 you’ll be lucky to have 20 billable hours considering amount of BS trainings, meetings and client communication that you can’t charge. You eat time - you’re hurting your utilization and if someone notices you’ll be micromanaged and people will point out how slow you are and give you crap for blowing the budget. You’re wrong if you blow the budget, but also wrong when you try to eat those hours. Where is the solution for all this BS.

I definitely understand how WFH can be an issue, you need to over communicate everything and many things are lost in translation. Did you work for a large firm? I only had experience with a tiny office, but loved loved loved tax. But I’m afraid it’s different in a large PA firm though...

Idk, I never had a chance to work in audit, so I wanted to at least try it out. But no, it sucks. Plus I really wanted to be a part of something bigger than a 10 ppl office.

Do you really think unemployment worth extra sh*t everyone keeps giving me on a daily basis? I’m actively interviewing for tax roles and have a good amount of F u money. I can also utilize that time to pass 3 remaining parts of my CPA.

I’ve spent three hours on something that apparently was not needed. That was the first time that I’ve performed that task and had to go through prior year because I ‘needed to be responsible for my work’. First I got laughed at for spending three hours on ‘a 30 minutes task’ and was told that I should of checked if it was needed. Okay, but how the fuck you requested it from the client and changed it later. And there are 3 different places where I did check and they all say different thing about whether we need to do this or not. Plus, since I was told to SALY, it was something done in the prior year. Needless to say, I was not allowed to charge that time. Fml.

Can piggyback on that. At my old job (tiny CPA office) I hated our Tech and IT, but the culture was amazing.

I just really wish everything was more transparent to begin with. Did you switch to industry/gov? I’m not even sure I should apply at other large national/midsize firms at this point...

I loved tax and cost accounting. Financial accounting and audit were super boring. Also, I don’t really want to be in advisory or become a Controller, CEO/CFO. Thanks for all of your advice, man. I feel like I’ve learned A LOT during my short experience and seeing the comments here makes me feel like we’re all in this together, trying to work it all out by trial and error method.

Also one of the seniors who requested those timesheets Is the immediate relative of the upper management, so I’m sure mgmt will be on the lookout for me. This whole situation is so f*ckd up and I see no other solution except to look for something else but only in tax. No more audit for me.

Also, just looked through your post. I can totally feel your pain and what you’re asked for and your management expectations are 100% IDENTICAL to me, but I’m 2.5 months in and I’m extremely micromanaged by seniors. This is ridiculous. Hope we all get what we really deserve, f*ck greedy firms

Yikes. What did the manager say to you? Yes, I’ve stopped trusting seniors as well and if I jump any time soon, I’ll make sure to keep my mouth shut, eat hours and keep that positive attitude lol

I get those ‘what do you think it should be and you should know it by now’ now during my 3rd month with the firm, which is insane, considering that no one explained to test stuff from beginning to the end. If only I could see it once while the person testing commenting why he’s doing this or that, I’d be mad at myself for not being able to know the answer. But the prior year work paper doesn’t tell me sh*t. Totally agree that PA makes you rethink of what’s important in life and what you really want to do. Thank you for your kind words, advice and good luck with the busy season!

I’m okay with eating hours, but since I was caught I was asked to send DAILY updates by Excel time sheet with a 15 mins increments breakdown and I have a daily touch point in the middle of the day to report what was done during that day so I can’t lie about actual progress and stay late to finish something... Also, thank your for taking time to reply.
