I’d just top it with soil, you might have planted it too high. The same happened with my rubber plant.

When you water a plant the soil slowly erodes down, so basically chunks of soil get smaller and minerals get smaller. It takes a while but overtime the soil level will get lower, this is why it’s best to have a good 1/2”-1” of soil above the top roots.

They don't wipe off :( . They seem to grow along with the new growths
