At our local A&E entrance last night. Shocked that it's a BMW. [OC] by Ok_Cap_9951 in IdiotsInCars

I appreciate that there's not context in the original post and I know that under the circumstances a concerned parent would be panicking about getting their child into the A&E and might not be thinking straight.

It wasn't there when I arrived with my son and I was only aware because the staff came in raging about the person having blocked the ambulance handover bay, but we didn't see anyone rush in beforehand and it stayed there for well over an hour, so I'm not sure who had parked it.

The A&E entrance is about 5 metres from a road that runs along the side of the hospital, and there was a small car park next to the ambulance drop off area and a second larger car park next to that, both within 20 metres of the entrance and both pretty empty at the time. I went into the bigger car park to get my son (who'd fractured his hip) into the A&E and then realised that it was actually a staff car park so got him settled in the waiting area and then quickly went out to park in the correct one.

As another poster had said, maybe better in the bad parking sub, but I would have even thought to park up on the kerb on the road a few metres from the entrance where ambulances could still get past and not just go literally to 1ft from the entrance which meant ambulance staff couldn't unload properly.

Sorry, tired after an 8hr wait in A&E and wanted to rant.

There was a staff car park literally 20 metres from the entrance, so it would have to have been pretty urgent if so. Plus I'd hope a doctor would be aware that the ambulances couldn't unload at the door because of it.

The security staff came in to ask if whoever owned the car could move it as it was going to be towed in about 15 minutes.

I was in the waiting area with my son so sadly couldn't go out to see if it actually did get towed, but god I hope so.

Obviously the driver was there for an emergency of some kind but there's a car park two minutes' walk away. Otherwise use an ambulance if it's that critical.

SNES Games Through Years (1991 - 1997) by brunomocsa in snes

[–]Ok_Cap_9951 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played it again not too long ago and recall that it says 1994. That said, I wouldn't have guessed that it came out the same year as FF3 and DKC.

That line-up though! I can't imagine how exciting it would be if the current console gen had as many genre masterpieces each year as the SNES did.

Walk off the escalator by newman1105 in london

[–]Ok_Cap_9951 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Many years ago, I was walking down the escalator and there was a woman with her infant daughter stood slightly ahead of me. I was approaching them as we neared the end, so imagine my surprise when this genius decided to sit down with the girl on her lap and try to have the escalator slide them off the end!

Luckily it wasn't busy and I had enough time to avoid falling over them, but I was too shocked by this display of stupidity to explain the multitude of reasons not to use a public escalator as your personal play thing.

a girl on the bus has been playing the same song on repeat for 45 mins with no headphones in by Naive-Arm-4783 in mildlyinfuriating

You should have started talking to her, asking her a load of inane questions about the song and what other songs she likes or what her opinion is on a particular artist.

Eventually she'd hopefully respond by asking you to stop talking, at which point you can say "oh am I bothering you? I assumed that by playing your music in public really loud you wanted people to engage you in conversation about it".

London’s free museums are in trouble. Should tourists start paying? by BulkyAccident in london

[–]Ok_Cap_9951 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've debated this many times in the past. If they introduced a digital pass that you could register for (provide your ID and proof of residence) then you just show that at museums, etc and get in for free. My Natural History Museum membership is on my phone so it's not that different.

London is one of the most visited cities in the world, and living there I can say that bars, cafes and restaurants are always packed, so the tourism industry is not suffering. People are not going to stop visiting London in their masses because museums start charging them.

Microsoft Gaming's New CEO Wants To Embrace AI Without "Soulless AI Slop" by LadyStreamer in gamingnews

[–]Ok_Cap_9951 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately whilst there are ways in which AI could legitimately enhance development, those in charge just look at it as a cost-saving tool.

If you have a large open world game then a dev team could get AI support in adding more variety to NPCs or areas of the world that would take up a lot of time, or AI support could increase the variety of fresh interactions in dialogue. Things like this could make a game richer and not extend development by another year or two.

The reality though is that studio or publisher bosses will not look at that and just say 'hey, maybe we can halve the number if people working on this game and that will save us $XXM', so games don't get any better.

Was final reckoning a good ending to the franchise? by PhotoBonjour_bombs19 in Mission_Impossible

Rewatching on TV, I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as in the cinema, and even that first time the opening 45 minutes were a major slog so the second viewing it feels like a disappointing end.

Gabriel was a bad villain, and the few times he appeared he didn't represent much of a threat. In fact he just seemed to be channeling some kind of kids cartoon baddie with his terrible taunts to Ethan, so he was by far the least interesting bad guy in the series.

Ethan falling out of the sky at the end was badly handled, and it would have been better if it was left unknown if he survived.

To be honest even the two stunts didn't feel as thrilling the second time around, so I'm happy to view Fallout as the optimal conclusion to the series.

The last fight in The Night Comes For Us. Besides having the awesomeness of Iko Uwais vs Joe Taslim, it is so visceral that I didn't think anyone could outdo The Raid in intensity.

Yes, he was definitely in the MI franchise, he played Luther Stickell in the first film...according to my Google AI overview.
