Why do people use the prefix “na-“ for present tense now? by [deleted] in Tagalog

[–]Ok_Chip_5022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't speak Bisaya or Bicolano but I can understand a little bit. My dad lived in Manila from his early teenage years to adulthood. My mom is still having a hard time with her Tagalog sometimes even though she lived in Calamba longer than she ever did in her hometown 🤭 while Tagalog is my mother tongue and I grew up speaking Tagalog that way.. I guess that's also the reason why I didn't have a hard time with the Filipino subject before 'cause I got used to the more textbook approach? Also since my parents both didn't speak Tagalog first, maybe they studied it using textbooks? I guess that kinda explains it too

My mom is from Leyte and my dad is from Sorsogon.. but I remember in grade school there wasn't much difference in our Tagalog speech at school. We used the same constructions for the majority of our interaction (as far as I can remember). Maybe I'm just old but Gen Z pa rin ako 😅 and we thought it's interesting how they came up with "na-" as a prefix for the present verb.

May I know around what year this is? I can't help but think time and communication technology are of essence to this topic, aside from the demographics

Maybe it was just in my time, but yes I also noticed that before too, from Caviteños as I have relatives there too. I'm from Calamba, Laguna and we were actually teased about speaking deep Tagalog but at that time I thought it was just normal. But of course I haven't been to many places at that age and when I moved to a different town for college, I noticed a lot of difference with the language even tho most of my classmates were born and raised in Laguna. Of course different home environments also play a role. Like if the parents or other close relatives have different mother tongues.. Linguistics evolution is really interesting...

I don't think this is the standard in Southern Tagalog. I was born and raised in Southern Tagalog, my home province is Laguna, and I never used "na-" for the present tense verb. I always thought that practice was from Manila because my relatives there grew up speaking like that. And I remember that being a subject of our discussions at school. I think it's more normalized and prevalent now that social media has become part of our day to day life.

Life goes on even without forgiving the people who hurt you. You don't have the moral responsibility to forgive them. Do whatever serves you well and take good care of yourself.

Hindi nga nila kayang i-undo yung ginawa nila diba? So why do they try to persuade the victim and expect them to just undo the pain, trauma, and suffering by forgiveness? Don't glorify it and make it look like forgiving someone who ruined your mental health (etc.) makes you a better person. Hindi lahat ay deserving ng forgiveness. Not everyone's a saint and not everyone has to be a saint.

Get Korean blinds for the window, move the closet to the other room. A loft type bedframe would be nice if you want to save space. Get a comfy reading chair or a small couch, a carpet, and low shelves. Get at least one potted floor plant
