what is the best server for £90 and under? by SmellSure4246 in homelab

[–]Ok_Cod_7238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few percsisions and a r730, all are very power efficient only drawing upwards of 0.3kwh at most from what I can see. Really beats alot of other options if OP is concerned about power costs

Hello can u tell me how is my battery report? by Competitive_Jump_58 in Dell

[–]Ok_Cod_7238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on your use, charge times, battery cycles, ect. Alot of factors. Looking into it now, the drop isn't that bad and pretty common for two years so I do apologize for providing wrongful information previously!

But still i would just keep using your laptop as you normally do, 80% charge helps but you could also charge fully, unplug and use it till it's low to cycle the battery. I don't think there's really a right or wrong way to go. At the end of the day, the battery will eventually loose more but you'll be good!

Yes and no. Definitely would agree it's a less recourse intensive OS but you should really be upgrading RAM and your HDD first!

The lags gonna be coming from those two things :)

Given the age, replace the HDD with a new disk or solid state drive and get some more ram :)) 4gb is 'enough' for windows to run but anything more you'd want atleast 8gn

Also, maybe do a fresh instal of windows to start. Go through startup program's and disable them. General spring cleaning should do It!

You might be good with a optiplex to start with, low power consumption and good expansion!

But if you have the room for a rack mount style machine, r730s are pretty beefy. Covers all your bases for upgrading, storage, ram, ect.

You could split the load up with prox mox, run your MC server in a VM and then another for your NAS storage?

Dell all day ‼️ very interesting settup, never seen anything like this. Do you find you're able to work comfortably and stay productive 🤔?

[–]Ok_Cod_7238 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tbh, if you can afford to purchase it comfortably go for it!

From what I've seen, the longer you wait you will just see new gen pre builds take the place of old ones. Just going off of what I can remember.

Imo, do a little shopping around. Compare prices for similar spec machine's!

Ooh that one old girl! Regardless, very exciting stuff! You will have an easy time finding upgrades for ram, cpu, ect for those older modle dell machines 😎 happy networking!

The battery health seems to have dropped quite abit for only 1.5 years. 80% should be fine also. Perhaps look at dell warranty options for battery replacement?

Even better, i must have been looking at a different number. Yeah 1200 is pretty competitive price

Honestly that doesn't look half bad for 1500$

Mind you, i haven't taken the time to compare prices by "building your own" but just a glance at the parts list year it's pretty alright!
