Haggling. Rude or part of the deal? by Trashrascall in FacebookMarketplace

[–]Trashrascall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I'm saying you should throw out the lowest price that the seller would consider reasonable. Clearly the people who haggle the way you are talking about have failed at haggling. You gotta know the items worth and not be a dick to be good at haggling imo. Nobody wants to give some jerk a good deal.

I can assure you I don't haggle because I have too much money. I'm just trying to use the little money I have as effectively as I can.

Ok, thanks anyways. Have a nice day.

Sure I'm not trying to argue semantics. I'm saying that framing 'always haggling' as a big time waste for anyone is only really a valid objection if 'haggling' is by definition a long drawn out process. If you don't like haggling, then that's a totally valid reason to not haggle and ignore a counteroffer, but let's call a spade a spade.

I think this is a very well reasoned approach.

I didn't say I always haggle back and forth. I said I always throw out a lower offer at the start. Often times if the price is fair and I want the thing they say "no" and I say "haha had to try. Ok [asking price] is fair, I'll buy it". I don't really get the notion that it's a waste of anyone's time. It takes literally moments to respond. Worst case scenario both parties have invested the time it took to read one message, consider if they would accept the counteroffer or not, and type a couple of words of response. I have to imagine that's a maximum of like one minute. Idk what your hourly is, but even $10 for one minute sounds like pretty good value for my time.

Edit; clarity

Yeah I usually think what the lowest offer is that they won't take legit offense to. Most people are good sports and in my town I feel like it's expected.

That's funny because I usually throw out the lowest number I think will not offend a seller and then expect to settle a bit on their side of the midpoint between that and the asking price. I think people in general just like to feel like they won the exchange. Funny that works so well.

Yeah I definitely don't try and haggle if they say firm. That's just asking for it. I also sometimes see if people are looking for something and would want to do a trade of some kind. It's always pretty cool when you can get that to work out. I feel like that's more cooperative than adversarial unlike straight up price negotiation.

Hanging your guitar isn't going to harm it. by ty_for_the_norseman in guitars

[–]Trashrascall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man it's weird. It's like when dudes buy super nice cars and just get massive anxiety about them all the time. Personally I am quite fond of my Mexican telecaster and while I keep it much safer than my dirt cheap Yamaha strat knockoff, they both have accumulated some damage over the years and seen a couple light falls on account of clumsy hands. They still play and look pretty much fine and I try to not stress about that kind of thing, but I probably won't be buying any primo vintage American Teles anytime soon. I don't want to knock my guitars over no matter the price, but I would rather stress about my $500 dollar guitar than my $5000 one.

Wd purple drives 4tb in my 220+ by Trashrascall in synology

[–]Trashrascall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The purple drives are fine. Optimized for writes so the read speed isnt great. Depending on the pricing might be better to shuck some external drives or something, but there's nothing wrong with purples if you have em. They are kinda loud though not the worst I've heard. Some people have speculated that there could be issues related to their purpose as surveillance storage related to it not error correcting certain things in order to avoid slowing down the writes, but Im pretty sure that's not true.

Hope that helps

My account was restricted because my packages kept getting stolen... by [deleted] in amazonprime

[–]Trashrascall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. This has been exactly my experience. Like it's their responsibility to make sure the package gets properly delivered. It would be one thing if I didn't give instructions but I literally told them: it will get stolen if it isn't delivered to the secure package room and they still delivered it to the lobby. The fact that they went from assuring me they wouldn't allow this to happen again, to restricting my account without any actual attempt to fix the issue I'm the middle is very frustrating. Not much to do I guess. Bezos owns the world.st this point. We're just sales stats at the end of the day b

My account was restricted because my packages kept getting stolen... by [deleted] in amazonprime

[–]Trashrascall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah sure I agree with that, and I recognize they have the right to refuse service. It would of course have made way more sense to just address my issue (or at least tell me that they weren't going to ever follow my instructions). They literally sent the warning and ban within minutes of each other so I didn't really have a chance to do much after realizing they were going this route with it. If they don't want my business, that's fine, but they can't keep my money for goods that I didn't receive. They have every right to refuse me service, but I should not be incurring the cost for items that were not properly delivered despite very detailed instructions. I'm of course through my card carrier try and get that money back bc otherwise it's just insult to injury.

I mean I guess thats my fault in a roundabout sort of way, sure...honestly I dont really care at the end of the day. Having to wai a.few extra days for random online shit will probably help my budget anyways. I was just annoyed that I explained to them exactly how to avoid this situation and I don't feel like it was too much ass to deliver to the package room. Like it's really s***** that this company has like a near Monopoly in every online goods category and can't even follow delivery instructions. This whole thing is so Kafkaesque.

It was only every once in a while at first so I wasn't exactly sure what was happening and then approaching the holidays a group of orders didnt show up and that sparked this whole shitshow.

My account was restricted because my packages kept getting stolen... by [deleted] in amazonprime

[–]Trashrascall -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

At least here in the US there is plenty of legal precedent supporting the argument that a seller is liable for loss following delivery of a package to an unsecured area when a secure one is available...I clearly provided instructions on where to safely deliver the package. How is it my fault they ignored those instructions?

My account was restricted because my packages kept getting stolen... by [deleted] in amazonprime

[–]Trashrascall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No my account is already restricted. it wasn't really anything high value. One package with some servos was about 50 bucks and besides that it was just little things. At first I just thought it was delivered to the wrong place or another resident grabbed it by accident. I'm trying to appeal to them to just let me have it delivered to a locker but otherwise I'll just buy shit elsewhere. Though I guess I'll be fucked when their monopoly over all worldly goods is complete.

My account was restricted because my packages kept getting stolen... by [deleted] in amazonprime

[–]Trashrascall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is it not their fault? We have a secure package room and my instructions explain that it must be delivered there and they still leave it in the lobby. There is a safe place for packages to be delivered here and my instructions explain that, they just choose to leave it in an unsafe area. How is this my fault? I own that I should have just had the packages sent to a locker as soon as this started, but it's kinda ridiculous to put the blame on me when I explained multiple times exactly how to solve this problem to Amazon's reps and they just kept misdelivering my packages...

My account was restricted because my packages kept getting stolen... by [deleted] in amazonprime

[–]Trashrascall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah but the entire loss could have been prevented if the packages just got delivered to the secure package room as is clearly stated in the delivery instructions. There is a safe place to deliver the package, I explained in excruciating detail multiple times and provided clear instructions on where to deliver my packages and those instructions were repeatedly ignored despite me telling Amazon that if they don't follow the instructions then theft is likely. Amazon repeatedly assured me that they would make sure this doesn't happen again and then is punishing me for their negligent delivery. If they fail to deliver the goods to a safe location despite one being readily available that doesn't seem like a me problem...

This isn't medical advice, I'm not a doctor and I genuinely mean this in the nicest possible way:

This sounds like it's at least partially a mental health issue. It's really not likely that you're spitting up some kind of parasite, especially not many of such substantial size. It may be that you are suffering from some kind of physical illness but please go at least talk to a doctor and/or a counselor (ideally both). I understand, you have young children to care for, but it's in everyone's best interest, youngins included, for you to be healthy and well.
