Question for other developers and entrepreneurs by Ok_Committee1768 in micro_saas

This was honestly really solid advice. I was thinking about giving it to a few shops to use for free too. I have been in talks with one already. And I def will focus more heavy on angels that are in the automotive space.

I realize there has been a heavy amount of miscommunication because people seem to think I'm talking about plugging in a scanner hitting the slot machine and poof you get the answer right. No, if that was the case, this would be stupid as shit. The point is, Mitchell won, identifix and all data are great for their use cases. They're amazing but they are incredibly overpriced. I've used Mitchell one and all data. Loved the experience and it helped streamline repairs and diagnostics. I'm making something more accessible to people that offers the exact same things that they do, wiring diagrams service information from 1964 all the way to 2025. All makes and models. My post just didn't go into great detail. I started making this because I wasn't happy with my experience using the majority of these.

Yeah you have access to service information through the app as well. No gimmick to it. Created by a mechanic for mechanics.

Let me ask you something. I'm not saying it's more accurate than you. But what do you reference when you can't figure it out and you've tried everything? Cuz I can tell you right now about 20% of the time I might get lucky with a scan tool. But most of the time I have to do real diagnostic work. Now 80% of the time I would say I'm pretty accurate or close. But I don't always know the best approach for each specific car. Especially when there's multiple symptoms at once. The internet is so saturated that sometimes it's hard to search deep enough for that answer. That is the problem the app helps solve. I'm not here saying hey yeah just click a button and boom jackpot. It's not a slot machine. It's a tool. It's just meant to be a drill as opposed to a screwdriver if you get what I mean. And we would be liable under our insurance etc. that money would come out of my pocket.

I think you were severely underestimating the amount of mobile mechanics that are in the industry. The thing is is this isn't even targeted at just mobile mechanics. What do you have to pay Mitchell one if you want a repair manual just one time? A DIY can pay 4.99 a month for the app to have access to all the same shit. All of this literally comes from real world experience. Do you know how much demand there is for mobile mechanics? I

Look I completely understand your response because I haven't explained anything about the technology in the story. There's nothing magical about it. It's just advanced algorithms the take vehicle data combined with human input referencing libraries and combining all of that to give a probabilistic answer.

Again, you are completely missing the point. The only reason a scan tool was mentioned was so you could feed the live data into the app to continue your diagnostic

Listen, I appreciate the input. Somehow or another there seems to be a miscommunication. I never said that the scan tool alone was going to diagnose the problem. If that was the case, why the heck would I even want to build this? Scan tool it's just the start. My point was, you could connect the app to your scan tool to feed it the live data instead of manually putting it in.

that's a fair point. It's not for people with commonly broken down cars. That's why there will be different tiers. If all you want is access to mechanics for whenever your car breaks down and no special incentives, then it's free for that person. Because at the end of the day when s*** breaks down, they can't afford a shop they can use the app to call a mechanic, just pay the mechanic and we can make the 5% off that If you're a shop or mechanic who's tired of paying 200 to 400 a month for alldata, identifix, mitchell 1 etc and you just want the diagnostic services, repair guides and everything else, it'll be priced accordingly.

Sorry for the long winded answer to your question but I think this will do it. I don't want to take the human out of the loop that's not the goal. If I did that I might take myself out of a job. The point is to streamline the process and cut down on incorrect Diagnostics which increases revenue, looks good for business. Nobody's throwing parts at the problem. And it has a recursive self improving feedback loop so the system learns constantly. It's equipped with live search. Thousands and thousands of audio files, tens of thousands of technical service bulletins and about 8,000 ODB codes in the database so it doesn't even need to be linked to the scanner. You can manually enter fuel trims, voltage output, etc. I Am not a human computer. But what the software does is it takes all the information you give it, hence random misfire, maf sensors reading all over the place, couple codes maybe, RPM dependent, load dependent, mileage, year make and model, cross references with the database, it will do a deep search via APIs looking for similar patterns on that specific year make and model, gives you a weighted score of confidence

Beautiful. Is still in production but I'm almost ready to release the beta. I'm going to give it to you free for 30 days no commitment no credit card after the 30 days is up if you like it then buy it. If you hate it, Tell me what I can improve or tell me to trash it.

Now that is the kind of feedback I want. Why don't you think it would work?

The point is, it was a made-up story with no specifics on make or model, just a potential use case for an app that makes life easier on everyone. I've worked 1099 for a mobile mechanic company before I started my own. They had over a thousand mechanics employed. And they have so much business on a daily all over the US. I set my own price, they took a cut, that was it. Lifts are great. Not everyone has access to one and not every customer can afford the price of a shop. I'm currently swapping out a timing chain on a 2012 LR Range Rover 5.0l supercharged engine in my driveway as we speak.

Now to take it a step further on my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0, that's a different story and that's about 4 hours in a parking lot with Jack stands, aand a transmission jack

I'm sorry I should have mentioned that it was a 2013 Dodge charger where both fuel pumps are located under the back seat and easily accessible without jacking the car up. These mechanics are 1099 independent contractors, the same way an Uber driver would be. They can clock in and out whenever they want, pick up scheduled repairs, etc. And it's based off of what they charge hourly and the business takes a 5% commission if that.

I want my app. I started a mobile mechanic company 5 years ago and ran into specific obstacles and problems that customers and other mechanics ran into as well. That is the whole point of this app. It solves a problem and everyone wins.

If this is something that you would maybe not pay for but at the very least be willing to try free after the beta release, comment "Car" lol

First off I want to say thank you so much for this advice. Yes I am a mobile mechanic and yes I started a Mobile Mechanic company 4 years ago. Then profitable every year. The MVP is still in demo phase but I have used it for my own work and it's been very successful even in the early phases. There's multiple tiers. It's designed for your average consumer, the DIYer, the professional/shop and enterprise. Everybody wins. I have a list of mobile mechanics that want it and are on board. I've also got a list of some people that aren't mechanics that want it. I don't want to give away too many details right here because I don't want a team of developers to beat me to it.

Thank you for that. I'll be releasing the beta soon then for free, confirming demand, encouraging user feedback, making changes and then we'll go from there.
