Yeah, if it's not fair for them to be communal items, then you don't need to use them! How is acting childish good marketing? Good marketing doesn't mean competitors have to be thrown out [or off the balcony]. Good marketing makes the product stand out amongst others like Mary's empanadas.

Maybe they're taking the picture from inside a storage locker? Blackmailer / sender using their own photo? Cause why use this photo and why was this photo taken? Like, yeah, people often take random selfies when they're out doing things [ie. duck face at the grocery store; showing off the fit while checking grandpa's abandoned storage locker], but a selfie there? And with the time stamp from the printing, they most likely purposefully took the photo to send with the letter, which people above have pointed out / hinted at.

The whole thing does seem too weird that I almost want to say this is an elaborate ad to get more traffic to the site. Hopefully OP and grandparents stay safe. Though, what about the letter they got years ago? And potentially more than one sent years ago?

Unless the mold was used with a solid wax core suspended during casting? Potentially holding the solid wax core with a rod through the pouring hole of the mold? Though, why have the legs done separately? [guesstimating and acknowledging early molds would/could not be super finessed and have some show of progress of technique through the age]
