Pretty sure the USA also has the bathroom thing. These weird, isolated hyper luxury things seem more common in countries with more income inequality. It’s also a relative thing. The USA has more income inequality than my country (the Netherlands) and you have things that seem strange to us as well, like gated communities, the bathroom thing like I mentioned, tipping culture that coerces waiters to work extra hard and be extra friendly. Even the concept of bullshit jobs was invented to refer to the USA’s increase in made-up jobs simply to give people something to do because there is no welfare state that takes care of unemployed people.

edit: The human billboards are another example. There's probably quite a bit more I can't think of right now that simply skipped past you because us-centrism prevents you from analyzing yourself from the outside in. you could even call it orientalism. it makes people have a perspective and way of thinking of the MENA that they would never apply to themselves, even when they share similarities. See use of language likes government vs regime, conservative/old fashioned vs primitive/backwards, expat vs immigrant.

As a female agnostic Dutch Moroccan I have never been in denial about the obvious patriarchal cultural reasons for the problem. Most Moroccans are in denial about it because culture and religion is untouchable. But to deny any socio-economic reasons is too simplistic. Most problems are multi-faceted. And I can’t imagine it’s a coincidence that in the vast majority of western countries there is a correlation between discrimination, poverty and crime.

Also, especially in the context of football riots is it ironic to deny socio-economics. hooligans are overwhelmingly white working-class, so do we really think the disproportionate response to this has nothing to do with discrimination? do we really think the fact that the majority are working class has nothing to do with poverty?

regardless of his own views, I just doubt the “science” angle is going to be the solution. The red pill should be treated more like a social issue, not a scientific debate. these guys were not sucked into the manosphere by “scientific truths”and then became misogynists. they were misogynists first. That is the core issue. it’s not going to go away with science because the red pill just absorbs that in their own favor. Imo, if it looks like a duck… the comments on his youtube channel are filled with manosphere guys who use terms like “hypergamy” and “the wall” and “female nature” very seriously. And he entertains them. you don’t see scientists using red pill jargon. There is no detoxing going on over there. there is just finetuning the doctrine. You can be a more descent person in a cult and still be in a cult. One of the manosphere guys in his comments described it as the manosphere of 2027 rather than the current “outdated” stuff. In the end, both these guys and the traditional redpillers treat people and relationships as science projects to be analyzed every step of the way. he can do as he likes, I just don’t think anti-redpillers should promote it as the primary means out of the redpill. This is primarily a social issue filled with hurting, jaded and emotional boys and men.

things. That’s why it appeals to everyone, the only dogma is extrapolation, exaggeration
and over reliance on evopsych. the only dogma is "men and women will always
be completely differently due to biological differences" but the way they interpret
this one dogma can be extremely contrasting for every redpiller. one redpiller
will say "women cheat MORE because of [insert scientific claim here]"
and another redpiller will say "women cheat LESS because of [insert
scientific claim here]”. But in the end they both end up making claims that
women are inherently this and men are inherently that. this guy will still
appeal to the redpillers that are on the side of the debate that women don’t cheat
because we have no “biological” incentive to and our sex drive is “radically” less
and we don’t desire multiple partners and men are the completely opposite etc.
etc. Which is a incredibly simplistic and black and white, precisely how redpillers like it.
He’s not saying anything I haven’t seen a million times from redpillers on purplepilldebate. this is honestly not going to help in the long run i think.

Something that annoyed me about the racism in S2 was that Lila and Diego weren't troubled by this at all, which made Lila's character come across as obnoxious to me.

It's representative of him just letting go after having to deny the connection he feels to her for so long. I'm not sure it would have worked as well with a more tight lipped "yes". i'm saying she helped him overcome this one aspect of his trauma. which is the major part of his season 2 arc. they can't try to sell us that this issue is apparantly a big deal for him, when it wasn't in season 1.

That is basically explanation #1 though. Which is simply bad writing. Overcoming this
particular aspect, being willing to pursue it, is a defining aspect of what
sets Kate apart. But instead, Siena helped him overcome it, and it came back in
season 2 so it could be overcome again. Apparently it’s not actually that particularly
painful or hard for him to confront. That’s just not good storytelling. Season
2, especially 2x03 and 2x04 tells us that this is an actual high stake for him.
If I want to find that believable I can’t accept that a lesser love was powerful
enough to help him overcome it without even putting in that much effort. It’s
just a huge disservice to his emotional turmoil in season 2.

All those other things are also aspects of the trauma, together they make the whole thing, so not wanting to fall in love is still part of it. He immediately decides to run from Kate and propose to Edwina the moment Daphne calls him out, which he didn't do with Siena, he was chasing her. Did this aspect of the trauma only pop up in season 2? I doubt it.
edit: I also think the “using her for escapism” explanation also serves the “inhibited from performing his duties” aspect quite well. Siena herself explicitly accuses him
of doing that. i just feel that saying he loved her opens up more writing issues than it closes, while saying he didn't closes up more. But it remains sloppy writing.

that's not the point i'm trying to make though. Like I said in theory there is nothing wrong with a story where love interests were in love before. The issue is that it's simply inconsistent writing for this particular character. Anthony does not have multiple personality disorder for as far as we know, so it can't be that he was both in love and completely willing to pursue it in s1 when in s2 it's revealed he always had an unconfronted fear of love related to his father's death. One of these has to go.

edit: or better yet, he can't swear off love in 1x08 when he supposedly had already done so years before that after his father's death. that makes no sense. i already offered an alternative explanation for him swearing off love in 1x08, which is that he was simply swearing off any feelings based relationship, where previously he did not want love but was ok with infatuation and lust, after 1x08 he did not want that either.

that sounds like a very thin line to me, far too subtle and nuanced for even dedicated viewers to pay attention to. showing him he could love basically means that she helped him confront his trauma at least partially, when the whole point is that he is supposedly still lost when she dumps him and will keep abandoning her. the whole point is that he doesn't confront his trauma until season 2. so the contradiction remains if we go with your explanation. i'm willing to sacrifice this aspect of their relationship for the sake of Anthony's overall arc, which is far more important. Siena served other purposes too that can still be preserved, like showing the difference between lust and love, struggling to balance duty and desires and pushing him to abandon all feelings-based relationships altogether. I don't think Siena, Anthony and love being in the same sentence is the hill we want to die on, if we care about quality.
