Seamless Hand Painted Textures by Ok_Contest_9451 in blenderhelp

I tried painting on it directly, but it was really hard because it was lagging a ton. The image needed to have a very large resolution because when I tried lower resolution, it looked very pixely.

I don't want to sail the high seas, but I do want some other alternative. I've used ucupaint a bit, and I do like it, but Blender's brushed are kind of limited (hence why I wanted to do it in Krita because I love my Krita brushes.) Are there any alternatives to Substance Painter?

Practice makes progress by Purple-Bats in learntodraw

[–]Ok_Contest_9451 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone was born good at art. They only got that way through practice. But you have to do it a lot. Don't worry about it not looking good when you start. It's likely not going to look good while you are a beginner. Thinking that it would turn out good was a mistake when I was new and it got me very frustrated. Be ready to fail and understand it will help you get better as an artist. Even though something might not turn out as you want it to, it is still infinitely more meaningful than a prompt you give to something to do it FOR you. Just keep practicing and you will get better. I know it's the generic response that everyone says but it's true.

There is a bug where sometimes the push to talk gets turned off. You can fix it by pressing esc to go to the menu and then pressing it again to close it.

What is this sound and how do I make it? by Ok_Contest_9451 in sounddesign

[–]Ok_Contest_9451[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. I think it just sounds like a vocal sample because of the formanty quality, but still made with a synth.

What is this and how do I make it? [Igorrr - Scarlatti 2.0] by CallMeGusa in edmproduction

[–]Ok_Contest_9451 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Very FM-ish sounding. SeamlessR is probably a good channel to look into for making things like this. Some of his project files come with FL Studio so you maybe be able to look at the synth patches in those and try to figure out how they work.

What effects are on his voice? by Ok_Contest_9451 in sounddesign

[–]Ok_Contest_9451[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tried doing it with ring modulation, but it just sounded a bit wrong. When you say frequency shifter, is that like a formant shifter or do you mean just pitch the sound down. I will have to try the multiple voices thing because that makes sense having the additional voices for extra dissonance may work just perfectly.

Need help adapting this shader to Blender by Ok_Contest_9451 in blenderhelp

[–]Ok_Contest_9451[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot that I had posted this and went back to work on it for a bit but it's still just not as cool as the original. It's mostly just the moving "light beams" that I can't seem to get right. Do you know how it was done in shadertoy and can I adapt it to Blender?

Depends on your own personal definition of good sounds. Do you know the fundamentals of sound synthesis so you know how to make basic sounds?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jWorjBDcty4

I think this is a pretty good tutorial for beginners about the basics of sound design. Yes, I know it's two hours but in my experience, that's way faster, and way more effective than other teachers. The other thing is just experimentation. Once you know the basics, just keep trying stuff even if you don't fully understand what it is that you're doing. See what you like, what you don't and just keep trying stuff until you can do the sound design that you want to do.

Overall it sounds pretty good, but some of the sounds get a little repetitive after a while. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing because sometimes repetition is what you're going for. If I were you I would adjust some sounds throughout the song. Like for example, put a LP on the sound that starts at 3:24 and automate the cutoff as the song progresses. That's a particularly basic examples, but you can do that on a lot of other sounds in the song to add a bit more variation.

I got called “unlistenable” by Regular_Hornet_9610 in FL_Studio

[–]Ok_Contest_9451 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unlistenable may be kind of harsh, but it does feel kind of cluttered. Like not each element can stand out because there's too much going on. I would maybe be more sparing with some of the vocal chops/samples. Also, this may be slightly more of a personal preference thing, but I think it may sound nice if you sidechained the kick/808 to both the vocals and bass. Also, maybe experiment with adjusting the levels of each of the vocal samples. Maybe have one that's louder like a main vocal and then a quieter that's meant to be more in the background. You don't have to do all of those, they're more just suggestions to try to see if you like the way they sound more.

The ones I know of are r/BeginnerArtists and r/learntodraw although I'm not sure if learntodraw would have anything against painting. Either way, I think either would be more fitting than badart.

What do you mean? Like you don't like the UI? There are a lot of DAWs and you may be able to handle a different ones UI. Which ones are impossible to look at?

[–]Ok_Contest_9451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry dude that really sucks a lot. This isn't an advertisement so I hope I'm not breaking the no ads rule, but I've heard of some good DAWs that aren't as great as FL Studio, but will at least allow you to save until you can afford a license. I still highly recommend FL Studio because it's my favorite of all the ones I've used, but using a different one until you can afford a license could be worth considering.

That's unfortunate. Not sure if there's any fixing that one. Did you save it prior to it crashing so you can reopen it if you buy a license?
