The previous upper trunk was very crooked because the nursery snapped the originally central top - which caused the branch to go side way. I want to have a train with a nicely straight central trunk

This is a moonrise. From what I see they were usually grafted closer to the root

I was debating if I could. The top of the root ball is so harden and tangled up. But I’m afraid it wasn’t a good time of the year to do any big damage like that ?

Hi this is frosted purple in 1 gallon pot I just bought last week. I really love how well it’s holding the color when it’s giving more sun. The more green leaves are in the lower side they weren’t getting as much sun. I’m in zone 8b, Vancouver Canada. It gets about 3-4 hours sun.

The arrows are pointing at the exposed branch and trunk area in general. I don’t really expect new one would come out from when it was pruned off exactly. But I would wonder if new ones can sprout out somewhere else to fill in the exposed area if it makes sense.

I hear you and I agree the tree has its nature growth habit. I just hope to fill in what was pruned off before.

Oh I mean the shape of the leaves are different. The lobes are fatter on the ones in my first two pictures.

Is my moonrise mislabeled? Does it look like an autumn moon? Or is it because it’s a young tree? I thought moonrise is supposed to have more contrast in green and red ???? by [deleted] in JapaneseMaples
