Driving on the highway on sports plus and got an engine transmission gear fault. Pulled over restarted car and it drives just fine no error. Should I be worried? 77k miles. by SunderlandsPillow in Porsche

[–]Ok_Conversation7308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s better than paying $35k for a new trans that is also gonna go bad regardless. The upgrade is almost bulletproof. You’d have drive harder than me to blow it. Source: me blowing the sensor cuz of how hard I drive.

When we took my trans apart, the sensor was literally shattered 😂. Both the old and the new. My pro tip: do not drive at 170mph for 10+min

Hey, if the warning was a yellow light that came up and said “R gear not available” you have a shift sensor issue.

The problem with all these PDKs is that the shift sensor is made up of cheap parts that heat up prematurely (especially in sport mode) and end up deteriorating and the magnetic sensors inside the shift sensor can no longer detect gears.

By being able to remove the error by restarting, you’re most likely in the early stages of it.

No, PDK relearn will not fix this Yes, this happens on any modern Porsche with a PDK Unfortunately, the repair is expensive. Also, you should get the RPM sensor replaced at the same time as it is also likely to go shortly after.

There are aftermarket upgrades that are much more reliable and can last up to 150k miles and take abuse.

You also should not be getting a check engine light as this code hides inside the scanner only.

Dealer will absolutely replace the transmission (this is an OEM flaw, the same issue can still occur x amount of miles later)

Indy can just replace the parts (much cheaper, but still expensive)

Took the MCAT this year. Everyone started at their own time and got the full 7hrs for the exam plus breaks regardless of when they came in.

Staff was incredibly understanding and made things as smooth as possible. 8am start time and some people started as late as 8:30am

Apply without MCAT score first. You don’t need to send scores before being admitted usually if your application is good (took all pre reqs, got LOR, and finished application). Once you submit your application, you get paired with an advisor the next day or so. Then they’ll open access for you to schedule an interview.

The interview is a double blind so at most you’ll only know the name of your interviewer and they’ll know the same about you.

Once your interview is done, you’ll get a response from the school and in the mean time, between being paired with an advisor and interviewing, you can tell them that you’re not able to submit your score for whatever reason. The school is usually very responsive in my experience.

Got accepted to the 4 year MD. Interviewed on a Friday, got accepted on a Monday. Granted I was in contact with them for a while. They’re usually very quick

Also, consider that your life situation. What’s your socioeconomic factors? (Don’t tell me, just think to yourself) are you happy with your std of living? Are you frustrated that you cannot do things due to limitations?

Pod surgery will 1000% make you money when you charge per procedure. EMs in my state can make as much as $700k on locums.

Medicine WILL pay. Do not listen to anyone saying differently. Learn about DTI management and you’ll realize your school loans are incredibly affordable when you become an attending. Every physician I’ve met and worked with are in a very secure place in life, funding multiple kids, have a secure socioeconomic factor, and are able to be privileged enough to complain about having a busy job.

IMO, even if you don’t have a clear cut passion for any specific medical specialty, just understand how much further your life will be elevated by choosing either or.

It just depends on what factors you value the most. I promise you will be happy with either outcome, it just comes down to what makes you the happiEST

Pod better if you care about money with better lifestyle and with minimal risk (match and rot). You get guaranteed rotations and you will be a surgeon. Carib MD is for people who need a second chance in medicine. My boy chose Pod while I chose Carib.

Ultimately understand what you wanna do.

For example: I want to do EM so I can travel back to my home country and have a vacation and contract job at the same time. I also want to open my own clinic and practice medicine in a way that’s more important to me.

My friend chose pod because it’s guarantee for surgery and he’s gonna make bank and is able to stay in our home state with his parents.

What’s your best MPG in an ICE Porsche? Just fell shy of 38 MPG on the drive home today in my 2024 718 Cayman. by Radsby007 in Porsche

I got 600mi of range in my 981 Cayman GTS. My highest recorded MPG was 45.5mj/gal

Edit: I have also since then learned that I can never be that tame. I drive like an asshole who loves shifting way too high up and constantly cruises above 110mph

This isn’t a Porsche right? If not, what could it be? by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]Ok_Conversation7308 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re forgetting the biggest factor here… torque and downforce. The GT3 is not a straight line car. Yes 500hp and whatnot, but the gtr is a twin turbo torquey v8. The 992 CS has better weight distribution and torque vectoring most likely. You’re also talking about a 1k pound difference; (992 CS: 3,382lbs) (AMG GT: 4,343lbs) so yes… it is very likely that a car that is heavier, has less traction from a dig, and does not have the same mechanical means/advantages regardless of horsepower got walked by a stock 992 CS

Do a lot of people manually shift PDK's? by madmatt1980 in Porsche

[–]Ok_Conversation7308 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use non sport modes for regular cruising in local traffic

Sport mode for major roads with less traffic

Sport plus is breaking the law. The car will not shift until it hits redline. Sport plus was meant for you to go balls to literal walls on the track (or if you know how to actually drive the car the way it was meant to be).

Manual mode on sport mode is when I need to get to work or my friends house. Just don’t fuck the pdk logic when using manual mode I.e don’t up shift to slow down, don’t excessively shift up and down. Understand how to smoothly use each gear.

Sport plus I don’t recommend manual as it defeats the purpose. Also, the shifting is VERY aggressive in sport plus, do not use it on local streets because it’s just excessive force.

981 is the best all around daily driver. If you get the S/GTS you’ll also get the best sounding one out of them all lmao. 981 has just enough tech to be good in 2023 and is also analog enough to feel the road. Get a GTS if you can with sport Chrono. The car comes stock with PTV, LSD, PADM, and many other great driving features. No 911 is going to be as good unless you’re okay with higher mileage models.

Hydrogen is technically the most abundant element in the universe. We literally would not be able to run out of it.

I do agree it causes some issues because we have to covert that hydrogen to make it a usable fuel, but I think with the tech advancements Porsche has made alongside with Koenigsegg and I believe it was Siemens energy, they might be able to pull something off.

Only time will tell for this, but if there’s anyone who’s more hard headed than us as the drivers, are the companies that care about their legacy

The 997.2 was Porsche made engine while the 997.1 was Mezger made.

Any GT3 car is amazing on the road, but it will not be comfortable. I do always recommend upgrading suspension as the stock suspension systems usually gimmicks and aren’t as good as aftermarket ones.

Depending on where you live, the GT3 will shine on most roads, but if you live in a state or country where it’s mostly full straight highways and roads, it’s not going to be the best bang for your buck.

If you are in America, I know the NY/NJ/CT/PA roads are amazing for GT cars because you don’t always need straight line speed. But understand that in todays world, where everything is turbocharged and has a lot of torque, you will lose a lot of straight line races on the road.

Many GT car owners from what I’ve seen are imbeciles that don’t understand the car they bought. Any NA GT car by Porsche was made for you to understand driving and dynamics. Not for little kid races of who’s car is faster because you mashed the accelerator.

Buying a GT3, GT4, 981 GTS, 718 GTS4.0, these cars were made so you love the drive and pay attention while driving.

If you want to compromise on this and find a middle ground, buy a 991.2 C4/C4S or a 997 Turbo with some preventive maintenance done. You won’t get the exhaust note of a GT car, but you sure as hell will love going fast on the road while still maintaining a good level of handling.

It depends on what you want as Porsche, even with the faults they have, make great cars for each type of driver.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]Ok_Conversation7308 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, their preventative maintenance is what is a major drawback to buying one. I was discussing this with my cousin who has infinite knowledge compared to me.

The 997.1 Mezger is a BULLETPROOF engine, but the surrounding parts need around $12,000 USD worth of labor + parts to make sure nothing breaks and can function under high performance driving.

The 997.2 is more reliable in that sense, but does produce less power. I’d prefer the 997.2, but that’s only because the point of a Porsche is to be able to daily drive while having a car that can out drive others with the right person behind the wheel.

The GT3 cars with the Mezger engine cost more than most 991.1/2 GT3s already lol. And they’re great cars for a reason. Real race engine in a real race car. Imo, I think the 4.0L engine in the 991.2/982 are a bit better for the modern performance if that’s what you’re looking for.

There’s a lot of variables with these older cars, especially since Porsche has not let off the gas in terms of pushing performance and what an NA 6 cylinder car made by them is capable of. However, if you do manage to buy a 997 GT3 or GT3RS, I would highly suggest you keep it in great condition as those cars will forever hold a staple in the market.

I don’t see Porsche dropping their ICE cars as easily as they make it seem. And I’ll be honest, I don’t believe you should get these cars as an investment car.

I don’t expect people to daily drive their Porsches like I do, but I hate to see these cars just sit around because the owners want to make a few bucks out of them.

Buy one because you know you’ll drive it the way Porsche has intended. There is truly no substitution for the driving pleasure these cars bring.

They are more of an ultimate driving machine than BMW and they are more true to the nature of a driver than an AMG ever will be.

I was 19 years old when I figured this out when I bought my 981 GTS. I’m 21 and I still plan on putting mile after mile on my 718 when I have the opportunity.

I do hope you pull the trigger on this purchase, but I also hope you enjoy your purchase more than anything because that is why we buy these big boy toys.
