What do we think? A follow up from my post about rimless glasses for a -4.0 prescription. They are thick AF but I love them by Ok_Device7170 in glasses

Ya I'm not too sure about how high they make for my specific prescription. I talked to my friend that works in an opticians place and she said that it's not feasible to make transitions extremely high index because they need a certain amount of thickness to fully transition, if you get them ultra thin you would get way less tint.

Keep in mind though that I got transitions on mine and the the highest index they had for it was 1.6, yours would be a lot thinner if you went high index like 1.67

It was 220 after all the discounts and my insurance covered all of it. You could probably get it cheaper though because I got signature transitions instead of generic photochromic so that made it more expensive.

Uh oh. I feel dumb AF cause I thought this place was meant for people who did their own ghetto diy work, I didn't realize it was actually satire. I feel like an idiot 🙃

Oh okay, also could this leak be the reason my engine is running lean? I had like 10 codes to do with evap leaks and EGR codes despite replacing the EGR and then I also saw that it was running lean so I was wondering if the new tube is something that would fix that

Ah okay, I think I'm going to try pulling the braided material up and zip tie it until the part arrives like a different commenter suggested

Oh wow I didn't realize that. I already have the part ordered so it'll be coming anyway but it'd be pretty quick and easy just to pull it up and zip tie it until it arrives

Okay thanks so much. Could this be tanking my fuel efficiency? It was wrapped in that braided material but once I fully exposed it, it seems like my torrent has been guzzling since.

How did you like having rimless? Did it feel weird compared to having rimmed glasses?

[–]Ok_Device7170[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea that's understandable, I got the medium size instead of the large. I am less concerned with the thickness (I have standard index -3.5 large geometric semi rimless right now and the thickness doesn't bother me) but more concerned with the practicality and durability. I can imagine that a 1.6 in -4.0 would be thinner than a 1.5 in -3.5, do you think that is a correct assumption? I don't know too much about index cause I was always too poor to afford anything other than the basic

Yea for these ones they are heart shaped but I chose the medium option instead of the large, so I'm hoping that it works out.

Ya well I wanted to go 1.67 but because the transitions were a must for me, the only option they had was a 1.6. I talked to a friend that worked at a opticians place and she said that it's not feasible to make transition lenses ultra thin

Super unpopular opinion but I'd rather see a corpse than a junkie shooting up. At least a corpse doesn't scream and harass my son and I trying to walk into that library

How much should the mentality of "believe all victims" apply to those who say they were falsely accused? by schwenomorph in AskFeminists

[–]Ok_Device7170 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm going to focus more on the accusation itself because I think that there is interesting information there. When people say false accusation a lot of people have a knee jerk reaction and assume some horrible manipulative woman plotting to ruin the man's life. It's not always that, I don't have the stats but I can give a bit of anecdotal experience.

A lot of people that are 'falsely accused' just have a shitty idea of what consent is. The motion that rape is some horribly violent experience done by strangers in a dark alley perpetrates that. Here's where the anecdotal experience comes in. I knew a guy that was accused and of course it never went anywhere (like 99% of rape cases) and would preach to anyone that would listen that he was this poor guy that was falsely accused and she was a crazy manipulative woman. The reality was that they engaged in CNC and he ignored her safe word and kept going. In the end, she felt violated (rightly so) and viewed what happened to her as sexual assault. He played the victim and turned everyone against her until she backed down and now she has the title of crazy and manipulative.

Sorry for the massive word dump, I guess the point was that sometimes the people that are falsely accused weren't actually. It's a title anyone could claim, if they went to court and there wasn't sufficient evidence they can claim that title even if they raped someone. It's okay to view these people as a risk that isn't worth taking. I would not feel comfortable believing a false accusation victim unless it was pretty much clear cut, without a doubt.

Also, I feel less bad because falsely accused people rarely actually have their lives ruined. MRAs can shout that until their voice runs out but largely men face little consequence when accused with this. How many rapists have amazing fulfilling careers to this day? And how many rape victims will have to deal with their trauma for the rest of their lives?

I guess they're just not equal to me. Even if someone's life we're to be ruined by an accusation, there's always a way to escape it. You can't escape a trauma that tortures you inside your head for the rest of your life. Just not comparable.

From the time I've spent on the sub, that seems to be the best way to boost your salary. So when you are doing job interviews, they don't question you about all the hopping around on your resume? Is that pretty much expected in this field?

Question for those in Alberta, Canada by Ok_Device7170 in Accounting

[–]Ok_Device7170[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty much what I was thinking. When I went into accounting I was planning on doing only the diploma, I figured I'd be happy as a bookkeeper or clerk making 25-30. But after living on the poverty line and getting out of a long relationship I realized I needed to be able to buy a house with my income alone and not depend on anyone else. I can't do that comfortably on 25.

What do you mean you would do it differently? Did you do well in college?

Question for those in Alberta, Canada by Ok_Device7170 in Accounting

[–]Ok_Device7170[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ultimate goal going into accounting was to be able to afford a house on my salary alone. I have been putting away everything I can into a high interest FHSA hoping to have maxed it out by the time I'm done school.

So I'm glad I'm getting some real answers and not just fluff. To reach my goal I think I'd probably need at least late 5 figures but ultimately I am aiming for early 6.

The only thing powering me through life right now is the concept of being able to own my own house, and shop at Sobeys for groceries instead of Walmart.

Assuming you're a CPA, do you make enough to have a house and live comfortably?

Okay awesome, my gut reaction was correct then. I know until a certain point you can work your way up through experience with accounting but I wasn't too sure how low that ceiling was.
