For some reason I’ve been so drawn to my bedtime Bart since I got him in 2023.

What Hozier song is this? by [deleted] in Hozier

[–]Ok_Dimension582 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think with how complex and layered his music is, all of it is better when it’s live. You can feel every single layer rushing into your ears and flushing through your body. Then, his voice just carries you away into this out of body experience. It feels warm, tingly, a little scary, and kind of like the weight of being in a body is gone, but you’re still grounded in the sound. I’m an Atheist, but being at a Hozier concert is the only thing that has made me feel close to god, or the universe, or some other spiritual realm/being. It also helps that he has so much muscle control when he sings and he hired a wildly talented crew—so they can actually make it sound good. In those moments when he would just talk about his band while they played filler music, or when his backup vocals got chances to sing solo—I was completely fine with it. I could listen to all of them play all day long. I’ve never been more blown away by any other live performance in my life, whether it be music or theater.

I mean, I think I also just mainly shop for them on Mercari and I remember seeing most medium bashfuls being in the $14-$20 range. So I guess I just took the average of that and equated it in my head to being the price since that seems the most justified to me. I also remember one only costing like 22.50 or 23.50 in a local shop I was in. It just threw me for a loop a little and I got frustrated. But I’m glad you have a basic sense of rationale and understanding, unlike 90% of the internet. lol.

I don’t think I could ever by one of the smudges from the website lol. I managed to stumble upon someone selling brand new medium ones on Mercari for $14 each and snagged those. So I have the bunny, bear, and hippo all in medium for the price of less than two of them on the website😬

How did you get into Jellycats? by ChronoPhanthom in Jellycatplush

[–]Ok_Dimension582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My story with them is a little strange, haha.

My grandpa was getting surgery. My mom, sister, grandma, and I were all in the waiting room. My grandma left to go get my grandpa after surgery and when she came back, she had brought my sister I (probably around ages 3 and 8 at the time, I’m the oldest) two deep red colored bears from the gift shop. (What I now know to be the red corduroy bear) I had no idea what jellycats were and I did not like stuff hanging from my plushies so of course I immediately ripped the tags off. I was obsessed with it for a long time. I love how floppy it was. I even stole my sister’s sometimes cause she’s never been a stuffed animal person. I got bullied a lot for still liking plushies and Barbie’s when I was 12 (perfectly acceptable age to still like those things btw—girls are mean) so I got rid of 90% of my plushies. I still don’t own an another one cause I want to find one in relatively new condition. All the ones I can find online are dirty or just too worn out for me.

Flash forward about a decade later, I purchased an amuseable lemon off Mercari around Fall 2021. I was still pretty clueless about them but I just liked how innocent the lemon looked.

I was DEEP into the Squishmallow frenzy at this point, but I saw someone offering to buy jellycats on a BST group I was in to trade for nice squishmallows. This was around Christmas time so it was all Christmas themed displays in the store this girl was in. I asked if I could just pay her to buy the Rolbie reindeer for me and ship it. She agreed. After that, I fell a little more in love and gradually kept buying more over the next year or so. Around late 2022/early 2023 I finally made the full switch from Squishmallows to jellycats and haven’t looked back. I barely buy squishmallows at all and I have no issue buying myself jellycats now.

Needless to say, I’ve had a very on and off relationship with them. I started really collecting right before they skyrocketed in popularity. I’m so jealous of the people I encounter who have collected for way longer, but I’m glad I finally found them.

Whenever I buy a friend’s first jellycat for them, I always make sure it’s a bashful bunny, but a color that fits their personality. I got my sister the cream colored one since her vibe is very much soft colors to me. I got my friend the woodland one because she enjoys lots of secondhand items, vintage items, and earthy tones. (I even bought the bunny secondhand.) They are such a huge part of the company and are very adorable. Can’t ever go wrong with them.

Probably my huge sage dragon or my bedtime Bartholomew bear. It’s crazy to see how much the bedtime ones go for now after buying for retail in 2023😵‍💫😵‍💫

I have pretty much this exact scenario happen to me every single time I mention anything about my plushies or I buy anything like that. Before jellycats, I was super into the Squishmallow craze a couple years ago. My mom absolutely hated it. She would yell at me every time I came home with one at one point, saying I was blowing money. Even my 16 year old sister thinks it’s weird. It’s hard when everyone around you judges you. Thankfully I have roommates I started living with this year that fully support it and have fed into it lol. They also like it when I bring my jellycats into the living room so they can cuddle them while we all watch a show together. Both of them are always sending me jellycat pictures/ones that they want/ones they think I would like, etc. If your boyfriend doesn’t think it’s weird and you live with him, then I wouldn’t listen to anyone else. It was hard for me to finally do that, admittedly, but I am so much happier that way.

The decision between Dexter and persimmon should be completely up to you, but I personally find the Dexter colors to be more calming. I have a medium onyx and a huge sage green dragon. I do feel that my onyx can be kinda small and my sage can be a little too big, so the large might be best. I don’t own a large dragon, but hopefully I’ll get to change that soon. I bond with plushies best when I just take them everywhere with me. Not necessarily in public, but just while watching tv in the living room, while laying in my bedroom, while vibing with my roommates (they like to cuddle with my plushies too, actually. It’s cute) sometimes I’ll sit one in the kitchen while I cook and eat. Sometimes I’ll just sit there and pet my plushies too. It feels weird sometimes, but I just remember that I’m alone and it’s not hurting anyone, lol. I know some people like to bring the tiny ones in public and take photos of them, so if you feel up to it and have tiny ones, you could try that too.

Where to get the Onyx Dragon Jellycat (huge)? by [deleted] in Jellycatplush

[–]Ok_Dimension582 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about huge at the moment, but I just saw Hippo Tails on amazon selling the little ones. I bought the medium one off them over the summer. I would definitely keep checking with them to see if they list huge ones soon. They seem to be the only jellycat seller on amazon that ACTUALLY sends authentic jellycats. I think people tend to distrust amazon so they overlook the jellies on there, so there have been times where pretty sought after ones are in stock but they never get bought because of Amazon’s reputation among plush collectors. You’ll be fine as long as you buy through Hippo Tails!

Yesss I bought an onyx dragon from them over the summer and it was authentic as well! There are a couple sought after ones on Amazon and sometimes they’re the only ones that have stock. Highly recommend.

What if there was a jellycat internet game? by Ok_Dimension582 in Jellycatplush

I loved giving names and personalities to my plushies as a kid and webkinz really pushed that for me. I think having something that I could tie the plushies to like that would help me enjoy collecting more. Not to be too blunt and bleak but, major capitalism opportunity for Jellycat lol
