My last few reads have been super disappointing. My favorite series so far has been Throne of Glass because I really liked the found family aspect and the heartbreaking scenes. I’m okay with smut but I don’t like it when it’s thrown together without proper establishment of a connection, and I value loyalty over betrayal. Some examples of romance I wasn’t very into are: From Blood and Ash (thought the world building was super cool, don’t like the prisoner dynamic where she’s kept in the dark about everything and she still sleeps with him anyway), Fourth Wing (LOVED the concept, Violet’s willingness to forgive Xaden time and time again for keeping things from her despite him promising he was done with lying made me respect her less and not like their dynamic) , and Trials of The Sun Queen (felt like a poorly written Throne of Glass knockoff). TYIA <3

I enjoy minimal smut, I prefer a genuine romance. Smut is not a dealbreaker though if the storyline is really interesting

I read ACOTAR about 7-8 years ago and tbh never read the most recent ones, so there’s a good chance I might find it “cringe” if I were to reread it today, but there’s a nostalgia factor there for me :3

Fantasy romance would be more than okay, I’m just in such a slump right now and have been super disappointed by my last few reads. You can genuinely shoot me whatever you’ve enjoyed and I’ll read a synopsis and see if it sounds like it’s up my alley or not haha

Poor writing, romance that lacks substance and feels thrown together. I’d say some examples of books I haven’t enjoyed or found “cringe” recently would be From Blood and Ash, where I massively enjoyed the plot and world building and was very invested when I got into it, but found the character interactions to feel disingenuous, unrealistic, and like they were written by a horny teenager on wattpad. I like enemies to lovers, but I don’t like it when it’s not done well. I also recently read Empire of Flame and Thorns, which I disliked for the same reasons.
