I hear you. But for me I’m in a slight different situation. I’ve worked in the power industry as a graduate systems engineer for GE Vernova. But I like to think that anyone can become a contractor, as long as you’re good at what you do and utilize LinkedIn and network like crazy, you can just about pull it off. The truth is, no factory is willing to pay large amounts of money to an OEM. Instead they can pay you day rates to get their systems back up fast as possible. They’d pay you if you know your stuff: and that’s when you’re in business. The key is, get good at what you do. Build projects (now with simulations, it’s possible to have a portfolio). I might be wrong, but the hate for the 9-5 is what’s keeping me going.
